T
he 2nds' season started in
extremely cold conditions, but we
quickly established our rapid
passing and shooting game to beat
Blundell's 24-16 - player of the match
was Nancy Rowe. At Wellington we
dominated from the start, and never
allowed the opposition to gain any
momentum. Our passing and movement
proved too much, and we cruised to an
emphatic win - player of the match was
Elle Bracher.
After a fluent display of attacking netball
against Exeter School (29-13), we went
into the triangular tournament with
Millfield and West Buckland. Millfield
were to snatch victory in the dying
seconds of a cliffhanger, and scores were
level against West Buckland going into
the third quarter, before we just edged in
front thanks to Jennifer Stapleton, a lead
protected by some great defensive work
from Nancy Rowe and Gina Harvey.
After dominating Clifton from the first
whistle to win 27-7 (player of the match
here was Beth Horsham), we eventually
wore down Stoodley Knowle to win
30-25, with Jennifer Stapleton
outstanding all game.
The Taunton School fixture was a very
close physical encounter, with Taunton
leading 11-9 at half-time, and we trailed
16-14 going into the final quarter, before
fighting like demons to run out deserved
winners by 22-20.
After a comfortable 22-5 win against
Colyton, our final match against Canford
was a very tight affair, between two
teams who played some excellent netball.
We defended strongly, but Canford's
shooters were in good form, and we just
lost 27-22, a very competitive end to a
great season!
A
fter a rather scrappy start to the
season against Blundell's, the 3rds
were on top form against
Wellington, chasing down every ball,
defending tightly and shooting accurately
in a fantastic team performance!
We held the upper hand throughout
against Exeter School, with Vicky Smith
keeping her shooting nerve as we ran out
23-8 winners. Millfield had too much
pace really, though player of the match
Jess Sones played with great
determination at centre, but we then beat
West Buckland, albeit by the narrowest of
margins 9-8, thanks to good team play
and chasing down every ball.
It was frustrating to lose at Clifton, as we
played really well, moving the ball down
the court well and showing good
positional play - Erin Slade read the
game superbly. Taunton School
eventually proved too strong, despite
quick reactions by Amelia Clark which
disrupted the opposition's play. Rebecca
Vickery was player of the match with her
brilliant interceptions, chasing down
every ball.
Against Canford we played our best
netball of the season, upping the pace of
the game and playing well as a team.
Rebecca Vickery had a fine game and
was deservedly player of the final match
of the season.
Goalmouth action from the
2nds' fixture against Canford
2nd VII
3rd VII
The 4ths beat Blundell's 22-6, with
some excellent teamwork, and then
beat Exeter School too, taking the
lead in the first quarter and holding
on in strong winds. We beat both
Millfield and West Buckland in the
triangular match, but then had a
challenging afternoon against Clifton.
After a spirited performance against
Taunton School's tight defence, we
matched Canford well in the first
quarter, but they gradually pulled
away, despite our spirited fightback in
the final quarter.
