A
n unbeaten season for the 2nd XI
started brightly with a 4-0 win
over Wellington. Two goals by
Jessica Kennedy settled the team nicely,
and after half-time Katy Preece extended
the lead after good passing and
movement. Player of the match was
Nancy Rowe who finished off the scoring
from a short corner.
Two first-half goals from Sophia Collins
and Katy Preece put us in the driving seat
against a strong Cheltenham side, until
they pulled one back seven minutes from
the end. From the restart however
Charlie Webb ran past four Cheltenham
players, setting up Katie Blowers to seal a
fantastic win.
Against Taunton School we took an early
two-goal lead through Beth Horsham and
Sophia Collins. Taunton scored early in
the second half, but a swift reply from
Katy Preece put the game beyond reach.
We started slowly at Sherborne which
allowed them to go into the break with a
one-goal lead. After the interval we
upped the pace, and Charlie Webb
opened our account, with Katy Preece
adding a well-worked second.
Unfortunately Sherborne scored from a
short corner to earn themselves a 2-2
draw - player of the match was Lucie
McFarlane.
Against West Buckland we were thwarted
by their goalkeeper before falling behind
unexpectedly twice against the run of
play. Goals by Olivia Pittman and Jess
Kennedy ensured we went into the halftime
break level, and after some doughty
defence, Beth Horsham scored the winner
with four minutes remaining.
We began to take control in the second
half of the Blundell's fixture, and took the
lead through Beth Horsham, only for
Blundell's agonisingly to equalise with the
final penalty corner of the game.
An early goal for Katy Preece put pressure
on Bryanston, but they upped their game
and equalised just before half-time.
Improved passing and movement after
the break brought us the winner, courtesy
of Jess Kennedy.
In our final game we dominated Queen's
from the start, scoring early through Katy
Preece. Queen's eventually equalised,
but Jess Kennedy scored to regain the
lead within minutes. She scored again in
the second half to secure an excellent 3-1
win and, of course, our fabulous
unbeaten season!
T
he 3rds lost only to Cheltenham all
season, and began with a 2-0 win
against Wellington, Rebecca
Vickery and Olivia Rose scoring our goals.
After beating Richard Huish 3-2, we had
our tough match against Cheltenham.
Players of the match were Emily Parris for
her work rate and commitment, and
Imogen Segrave who made some
fantastic saves in goal.
Then came a 4-2 win over Taunton
School with goals from Rebecca Vickery,
Olivia Murray, Katie Blowers and Emily
Parris - players of the match were Tara
Bell and Ellie Healey.
After a 2-2 draw against Sherborne, we
scored twice in the first ten minutes
against Blundell's, the first from Olivia
Murray, followed by a goal for Rebecca
Vickery, to which Blundell's had no
answer.
We managed a narrow win against
Bryanston that could in all honesty have
been a lot more comfortable. Our goals
came from Olivia Murray and Georgia
Drew - player of the match was Amelia
Clark.
We then had to settle for a draw against
Queen's - Emily Parris opened the
scoring, but we conceded an equaliser,
and though much of the second half was
spent in the opposition's 25, we couldn't
quite manage to get the ball over the line.
But it was a fantastic season nonetheless!
The 4ths had six fixtures, the
highlights of which were resounding
3-0 wins against Sherborne and
Blundell's, with Cara Kossen and
skipper Charlotte Mason very much
to the fore. An extremely
competitive 1-1 draw against
Cheltenham was also reward for a
lot of hard work in training.
