T
he highlight of the year was the
inaugural King's College Show
Jumping Challenge which took
place at the end of September at
Comeytrowe Equestrian Centre. We
received over 150 entries from schools
throughout Somerset and Devon.
In the team section The Downs won the
first class, with Wellington School, Taunton
School and King's Hall School teams
winning classes 2, 3 and 4 respectively.
Individual classes were also strongly
contested. Tarn McIntosh and Polly
Chelton rode in the final class of the day
over 90 / 95cm high fences. They
produced two lovely clear rounds, with
Polly's time fast enough to secure third
place.
We are so grateful to Caroline Chelton for
helping to organise the show, Polly
Chelton and her sister Daisy (an OA) for
their help in the arena, and Alex Grace
and Simon Chicken for their help with
security.
T
his season was hugely impressive
in terms of the sheer effort put in
by all King's swimmers. The
training was increased to include early
morning sessions, and the team fully
embraced this. There were over forty
personal best times set in competition
during the season which is testament to
the dedication shown.
There were impressive victories over
Clifton and Blundell's, but the team
gave a strong account of itself in all
fixtures. Individually we had a number
of notable victories, with team captains
Rob McPherson and Tilly Barker leading
from the front. There were also regular
wins for Zach Spiers, Jess Sones, Olivia
Hake, Ben Atal, Sam Fletcher, and the
ever dependable Emily Parris. There
was also the insanity which is Angus
Urquhart, who wins races from
positions that defy all logic.
On Friday 7th June, King's swimmers
took part in the prestigious Meade King
Cup. This is the oldest sports trophy in
the world competed for by more than
two schools. Taunton School, Queen's
and Wellington also take part.
There were a number of outstanding
performances, with team captains Rob
McPherson and Tilly Barker both
storming to victory in their events.
There was also an unexpected victory
for the senior girls' relay team of Tilly,
Emily Parris, Ellie Healey and Leea D.
Angus Urquhart was at his manic best
to gain second place in the 50m
backstroke, and there were further
second place finishes for Emily and
Zach Spiers. Once again King's
swimmers produced a whole host of
personal best times.
Next year, under our new captains
Angus and Emily, the squad is in good
hands. All of the coaches would like to
thank Rob and Tilly for the example and
standards they have set this year.
