2 We returned to
school at the
beginning of
September hugely
cheered by another
set of outstanding
public examination
results, but with
memories of another
fantastic and
typically King's year
still vividly with us.
In the following
pages you'll read of
great deeds on the
sports fields,
ambitious trips
abroad to place into
context theory learnt
in the classroom,
moments of great
drama in the theatre,
and moments of
great beauty in the
concert hall.
At the heart of King's
lies the willingness of
pupils and staff to go
that extra mile, to go
beyond the necessary,
to challenge, and
always find time to
try new things, to
take risks.
I hope this magazine
conveys something of
the flavour of last
year as well as
something of the
spirit of King's.

T
he new academic year began with
news of more outstanding
examination results. In an A Level
year group of 83 pupils, nearly a quarter
achieved three or more A* or A grades
and 12% of all entries attracted an A*
grade. Four pupils (Laura Hamilton, Tom
Counsell, Ted Vickery and Alex Leung)
achieved four or more A Levels at A*/A
grades.
The Mathematics department's results
were particularly strong this year, with
70% of pupils gaining A*/A grades.
Modern Foreign Languages excelled, with
97% of candidates achieving an A*/A/B
grade, and our nationally acclaimed
Design Technology department was
successful once again with just under half
of candidates receiving A* or A grades
and 93% achieving B grades or better.
The Chemistry department performed
particularly well, with 73% of candidates
achieving an A*/A/B grade. A good
number of King's pupils now go on to
study science, engineering and medical
degrees at university.
Laura Hamilton achieved A* grades in
Biology, Chemistry and Maths and an A in
Further Maths. She will go on to study
Medicine at Birmingham University. Tom
Counsell achieved A*s in Economics, History
and Maths and an A grade in Spanish. He
will apply to Cambridge in the autumn.
Ted Vickery, who was awarded the
prestigious Sir Henry Royce Award for
Design, achieved A* grades in Maths and
Design Technology and As in Economics and
Physics. He will go on to study Aeronautics
and Astronautics at Southampton University.
Alex Leung achieved A*s in Maths and
Further Maths, A grades in Economics,
Chinese and Music and a B grade in
Physics. He will go on to read Actuarial
Science at the London School of Economics.
At GCSE, just over 58% of entries
attracted an A* or A grade, and in a year
group of 90, a remarkable 19 pupils
achieved a clean sweep of ten A*s and
As. Four pupils, Helena Winsey, Edward
Gibb, Edward Keeling and Joshua
Stickland, managed the extraordinary feat
of achieving straight A*s.
King's College hosted a 5th form Careers Convention for local independent schools,
an event supported by local MP Jeremy Browne.
