T
he Under 14s took the lead in their
first match for King's with a try for
skipper Ed Himbury, before Clifton's
superior size and pace in the backs began
to tell. However it was a spirited start to
the season that promised much.
Despite some gutsy resistance, we found
it difficult to cope with the physicality and
pace of the Wellington side. There were
good performances though from Tom
Pittman, Charlie Collins, Cameron SouterFrost
and Ed Himbury.
It was a disappointing performance at
Blundell's - we found ourselves
outgunned rather by powerful opposition.
Skipper Tom Pittman tackled his heart out
though, and was ably supported by Ed
Himbury, James Clark and Curro Espinos
Ehlis.
We then began to turn our season round
with a memorable 45-5 victory against
the might of Cheltenham. The return of
Aaron Chapman galvanised the side into
producing our best performance of the
term so far. Aaron scored five tries, Tom
Pittman two tries and five conversions,
while Charlie Collins and Ben O'Neill had
impressive games.
It was a very tight affair against a wellorganised
Bristol Grammar School
defence and a powerful scrum. Bristol
scored two short-range tries after
sustained pressure, while King's fought
back with a James Clark try - Cameron
Souter-Frost had a great all-round game
at full-back.
It was a spirited display against unbeaten
Canford opposition. Aaron Chapman
scored our try, and there were good
performances from Tom Pittman, Ed
Himbury and Charlie Collins. Another
unbeaten side, this time from Queen's,
arrived with confidence, but couldn't get
into their stride against a rampant King's
team. Tries in our 45-10 win came from
Aaron Chapman (3), Charlie Collins (2),
Ed Himbury and Tom Pittman, who also
kicked five conversions.
And we ended our season in some style
at Taunton School, with the back row of
Ed Himbury, Charlie Collins and Hugo
Campbell-Smith outstanding. Centre
Aaron Chapman scored three tries, while
Ed, Charlie and Tom Pittman also got on
the scoresheet in a fantastic 38-0 win. T
his was a difficult season for the Bs
in many ways, the highlight of
course being the outstanding win
against Queen's. We all too often found
ourselves pitted against much larger,
pacier opposition, who seldom allowed us
to get on the front foot and show what we
could do.
James Clark and Jack Scrivens impressed
against Clifton, as they did their best to
stem the tide, and the tackling was
excellent at Wellington, who proved
bigger and faster than us.
Although well beaten at Blundell's, we
put in an encouraging second-half
performance, Dominic Scott-Bone
crossing for our try. Dominic and Freddie
Cole proved the stand-out players against
Cheltenham, while Brendon Reynolds
came very close to scoring against Bristol
Grammar School.
The Queen's game though gave us the
opportunity to show what we were really
made of in what turned out to be a truly
great game of rugby. Skipper Jack
Scrivens ran powerfully to score a hattrick,
and there were further tries for Will
Hall and Jordan Baker, as we celebrated
a fantastic 25-12 win!
