W
e started our season with an
under-strength team to face
Taunton School, which meant
Grace Murray and Theresa Bierling had to
step up from the Under 15s - and they
proved our most successful pair, winning
two sets. Tara Bell and Emily Palmer also
won a set, while Olivia Murray and India
Gavin improved all afternoon and only
lost their final set 7-6.
We recorded our first victory of the
season when we ran out impressive 8-1
winners at Wellington - the most
successful partnership of the day was
Annie O'Neill and Emily Palmer who won
6-2, 6-1, 6-1. Blundell's was a
disappointment though - a close match
which we should have won. Erin Slade
and her partner played well, winning two
sets 6-2 and 6-4, while Emily Palmer and
Annie O'Neill also picked up a set.
On a tricky afternoon at Sherborne, there
was nonetheless a fine performance from
first pair Elena Close and Tara Bell, who
won two matches and were 4-0 up
against Sherborne's first pair, before going
down 7-5. But we turned things around
the following Wednesday with a fine win
at Millfield - well done to Vicky Smith
and Erin Slade for winning all their
matches!
It was a positive performance down at
Canford, with the highlight undoubtedly
Elena Close and Tara Bell winning two of
their three sets against Canford's second
and third pairs. And to finish the season,
a convincing 8-1 win at home to Queen's.
The pairings of Erin Slade and Vicky
Smith and Amelia Clark and Annie O'Neill
did not drop a set all afternoon. This
young side had a fantastic season, and
showed much promise for the future!
T
he season got off to a challenging
start against Taunton School, but
Beth Horsham and Lucie McFarlane
and Chantal Fifield and Rebecca Vickery
all picked up a set each.
Things improved though a few days later
at Wellington, where we enjoyed the same
8-1 winning scoreline as the 2nds - with
three new partnerships the girls soon
settled down and played some lovely
tennis. Amelia Clark and Lucie McFarlane
came back from 5-1 down to win the set
against Wellington's second pair!
Olivia Murray and her new partner Olivia
Rose had a highly successful afternoon at
Blundell's, winning all three sets and
dropping only seven games. Lucie
McFarlane and Mimi Clark also worked
hard to win all three of their sets 6-1,
7-5, 7-6. We lost though to a strong
Sherborne side, despite Charlie Webb and
Katie Blowers picking up two sets.
At Canford, we had lots of good rallies,
but unfortunately lost too many deuce
points. Charlie Webb and Katie Blowers
though came close against Canford's
second pair. But to end our season, we
completely outplayed Queen's and did not
drop a set, a terrific way for 62 players
Charlie Webb, Katie Blowers and Pippa
Byrne to bow out. India Gavin and Olivia
Murray finished their highly successful
season with a very satisfying clean sweep! 3rd VI

The 4ths had three fixtures, the first
a resounding 7-2 victory over
Blundell's. Beth Horsham and Lucy
Mead won all three sets dropping
just two games, and Linda Brosig
and Phoebe Smith also won all three
sets, while Louisa Cave and Georgia
Drew had a good win against the
Blundell's first pair. Sherborne
however proved too strong, and
Canford away was something of a
challenge!
