T
here was an easy victory at
Sherborne to start the season,
Charlie Brain performing with both
bat and ball. Jack Samuel also made an
important 55 as we won by eight wickets.
Against Millfield we lost an amazing
game of cricket - chasing 248 in 30
overs we lost by just six runs! Charlie
Brain and Harry Magill both managed
quick fifties, but too many mistakes in the
field earlier on cost us another good win.
At Queen's we failed to adapt to poor
conditions and were bowled out for a
meagre 132, of which nearly half came
from the bat of Luke Tomkins. We turned
it round in the field though to win by 34,
Charlie Brain and Jake Randall the pick
of the bowlers.
Charlie Brain batted sensibly again at
Blundell's as we posted 162 for 2, Harry
Magill adding an important 43. Jack
Samuel then took three wickets and Sam
Sprague three stunning catches as we
bowled out Blundell's for 108. We lost
skipper Jack Gunningham to injury early
on in his innings against Canford, and
they won eventually by six wickets,
despite Luke Tomkins scoring 66.
After a convincing victory at Taunton
School, we went down by just six runs on
a small pitch at Monmouth. Harry Magill
took three wickets, and an opening
partnership of 128 between Charlie Brain
(68) and Charles Parkin (63) got us firmly
on the front foot, but wickets fell regularly.
And our season ended at Clifton where we
won by five wickets after restricting them
to 142 for 5. Our batsmen made easy
work of the run chase, Jake Randall
leading the way with a superb 81 not out.
C
harlie MacEacharn and Ben
Wagstaff took seven wickets
between them in the season
opener for the Bs at Sherborne, but it was
not enough to prevent a narrow 18-run
loss. It was a similar margin too against
Millfield - set a target of 191 we began
at a good pace with Joe Buttery leading
the charge, but wickets fell too regularly,
and we ended 28 runs short.
This was our last defeat though - at
Queen's we racked up 206 for 6, Joe
Buttery and J R Shimali both hitting 46.
Queen's managed to bat out their 30
overs, but finished 83 runs short of their
target. We then hustled Blundell's out for
41, as Charlie MacEacharn continued his
excellent form with three wickets, along
with Henry Cole who also took three.
We took just ten overs to knock off
the runs!
Louis Wood led the way against
Monmouth, with 5 for 27 in six overs.
J R Shimali set off at a good pace, but it
was Guy Torrance who took us over the
finish line with a confident 47 not out
from only 36 balls as we won with 13
overs to spare.
With Clifton unable to raise a B team, we
finished our season with victory over a
team made up of our fathers! Ted Niblett
top-scored with 67, while the parents fell
54 runs short, despite some Chris
Gayle-esque batting from Mr MacEacharn
who smashed 25 from 18 balls!
Headmaster Richard Biggs hits out in
the Fathers' match against the Bs,
watched by keeper George Willis.
