A
goalless first half saw the Under
14s dominate Wellington without
reward, but second-half goals by
Holly Hands (2), Lucia Abajo and Marina
Stoddart-Stones closed out a really
promising 4-1 win.
After Cheltenham took an early lead, we
had to fight back strongly, and managed
an equaliser through Grace Albery.
Samantha Church added a second, and
after Anna Denton had made a series of
excellent saves, Lucia Abajo slotted home
the winner.
In an entertaining match, we dominated
possession against Taunton School and
created several good scoring
opportunities, only to be denied by an
outstanding keeper. We played some
excellent hockey though and were
unlucky to lose 2-1.
We enjoyed an outstanding win against
Sherborne, cancelling out an early setback
with a fine short corner strike by Lucia
Abajo. Grace Albery made it 2-1 at halftime,
and we were able to dominate the
final ten minutes of the match after some
excellent saves by Anna Denton - Grace
Albery added her second and player of the
match Imogen Keeling slotted home the
final goal in our 4-1 win.
After a comfortable 9-1 win against West
Buckland, we went on in midweek to win
the county championship, beating
Queen's, Wells Cathedral School, Taunton
School and Queen's again - all by 2-0!
Spurred on by this, we got off to a flying
start at Blundell's with a goal from Lucia
Abajo, and a second for Holly Hands.
Blundell's pulled a goal back just before
half-time, but we continued strongly, and
Grace Albery scored the final goal in our
4-3 win.
Fresh from our midweek achievements in
the West regional finals where we finished
third in the whole of the West of England,
we looked anything but worldbeaters in
the first half at Bryanston, and conceded
twice. But in a spirited reply, this gutsy
team fought back with a goal from Grace
Albery, and two more by Lucia Abajo
earned us a well-deserved draw.
It was a disappointing end to the season
though - twice we were ahead through
goals by Lucia Abajo and Grace Albery,
but a fiercely determined Queen's side
scored the winner with one minute left on
the clock. But it was still a season to be
proud of.
T
he Bs trailed 1-0 at half-time in the
opening match at Wellington, but
showed excellent teamwork to
finish with a 4-1 win. There were two
goals apiece for Kitty Grace and Felicity
Moorhead. It was then a great team
performance to hold a strong Cheltenham
side to a 1-1 draw - player of the match
here was India Greenland.
We demonstrated good team skills
against Taunton School, and the game
seemed fairly even in the first half, with
Kitty Grace levelling the scores at 1-1.
We failed to stop the Taunton attack
though in the second half.
Further defensive lapses allowed
Sherborne a 2-0 first-half lead, but the
second half saw a much improved
performance, with some excellent
defending by Hattie Pritchard, and some
superb saves by Lucy O'Donnell.
After a strong defensive display at
Blundell's, we suffered a setback against
Bryanston, but bounced back in our final
match against Queen's. Kitty Grace gave
us the lead just before half-time, and
though Queen's managed an equaliser,
we held on for a well-deserved draw,
Flora Davies impressing on debut in goal.
