F
anning the flames of the informal
inferno, the Meynell Alfred Show
was ablaze with talent - hosted
and toasted by the dazzling Charlotte
Mason and smokin' James Fisher, the
stage saw singing, dancing, and acting
talent cook up quite the Friday night
storm. The 4th form boys treated us to
their very own rendition of Danny Boyle's
Bollywood featuring plenty of flashy
purpled polyester fabrics.
From Indian belly dancing to the magical
charm of Hogwarts, the show was
fantastically fictional, as the 5th form rap
battle rendered the audience spellbound
and speechless with their rhymes.
Next came the 3rd form girls who sported
Hunter wellington boots and flannel
shirts, as they did Miley Cyrus proud with
their Disney dancing. Onwards and
upwards the temperature soared to the
heights of the 4th form's chin-face filming
- well, short and sweet, this video was
notably a highlight for its originality.
Following Alex Sherred's performance that
had us all free-falling in love with him,
Miranda Hart's star appearance was, as
always, a hilarious experience, "please
thank you please caller thank you please"
- hopefully we can look forward to seeing
Jess Kennedy on BBC1 soon.
The Young Man sketch had the theatre in
Laugh Out Loud mode, with boys in floral
dresses, delicately dangerous gas leaks
and pipeline pandemonium. A certain
rinsing of the palate with the 5th form's
gooseberry cinnamon yoghurt posh totty
performance was just what the doctor
ordered, washed down by a Fenton /
Shapland freaky Friday cocktail and Alex
Sherred's heartthrob harmony with the
enchanting Emily Albery that stirred the
senses for the main course yet to come.
It's a buuu … it's a helicopter, no it's you
… riddle me with bullets, Batman was
sheer brilliance. And then, University
Challenge was the crème de la crème of
the evening, a parody to perfection
indeed. Planking around, the teachers
had us all impressed with their core
strength - on cars, baths, banisters and
beds they did themselves proud. Then
came the comedy of webcam effects,
which was rounded off with the Pirate
song to get everyone up on stage sharing
the spotlight.
All in all, the whole evening was a delight
- raising money for BEAT and Cancer
Research UK, this edgy, innovative and
enjoyable array of talent produced a show
that was a huge success and a definite
highlight in the Lent term calendar.
