O
ur season got off to a fantastic
start with a 6-3 win over
Wellington. Lucy Phillips and
Samantha Church won all three of their
games, finishing the day with expectations
set high for the rest of the season!
And these expectations were more than
met four days later against Blundell's, the
winning margin this time a fantastic 8-1.
Tilly Everard and Beth Beale worked
really well together to win all of their sets.
Things then went from strength to
strength as we registered an outstanding
7-2 win against Millfield. A special
mention must go to Tilly and Beth again
for an exceptional performance in all
three of their games, in particular beating
Millfield's first pair 6-3.
The Canford fixture was the first match to
produce a real challenge, and we fought
hard, with most games going to deuce.
Anna Denton compensated particularly
well for her injured partner.
We rediscovered our best form though for
the final two fixtures, both of which we
won 7-2, starting with Taunton School.
Then it was on to Queen's where we won
in very windy conditions - first pair Tilly
and Beth won all three of their games, to
bring a highly successful season to a
resounding close!
T
he Bs had some extremely close
matches in the opening fixture of
the season, but just went down to
Wellington 5-4. India Greenland was
player of the match with some impressive
returns on her forehand.
Determined to put things right, we had a
brilliant match against Blundell's with
some exciting rallies. Maddie Baldwin
and Petra Harding forged a strong
partnership, fighting for every point as we
ran out 5-4 winners.
At home to Millfield, our third pair
unfortunately didn't get a game as
Millfield were unable to field a full team,
but the others played brilliantly in
winning 3-1 - the pace of our tennis had
increased markedly since the beginning of
the season, and advice given in training
was clearly being taken on board. Marina
Stoddart-Stones and India Greenland
were pair of the day.
We were up against a strong Canford
side, but we didn't let them win easily.
Natasha Spiers and Lydia Smith were
voted pair of the match for an excellent
game against their opposite pair. A
disappointment against Taunton School
then put us in determined mood for the
final game at Queen's, which we drew
3-3 - excellent positioning and finishing
from Petra Harding and Tessa Counsell
meant they finished the season on a high
as pair of the match.
Focus and determination
