Primary Care and Older People
This service, without doubt saved the patient's life.
We felt very strongly that moving her late at night to a hospital setting
was putting her life more at risk. There was nothing additional that could
be done in hospital. The GP was very prompt with the home visit and initiating
ECAH team and provision of oxygen. The nurses were excellent, professional,
competent and compassionate. I felt that the chest physio made a huge
contribution to the patient's recovery with the breathing exercises and provision
of a nebuliser. My only concern was the extreme and repeated pressure
over the phone on the Monday night to transfer mum to hospital
when nothing more could be done for her in hospital.
My mother was a resident at Brooklands NH from July 2017
until her recent passing in September 2019. From the period
20 to 27 September 2019, Dr Potter and staff from Enhanced Care at Home
attended her in Brooklands. This was a great comfort to her, specifically to us
as a family as she was in an environment which was familiar to her with carers
who she knew and who knew her. It was a great relief that my mother was
spared the disruption of being admitted to hospital. I want to take this
opportunity to express our deepest appreciation for the professionalism,
kindness and compassion shown to us and the care afforded to my
mother in the final stages of her life.
We felt that risks were reduced by
being at home and being at home gave
the patient the best chance of recovering.
Less risk of infection. Less stress.
Able to get food and drink when required.
Able to rest quietly when in own bed.
Peaceful, quiet environment to let body
try to recover.
I feel there should be more of this rapid
treatment to keep patients out of hospital.
Patients will improve much better in the home
plus there is a more one-to-one connection
than on a ward, although they are excellent
in the work they do.
My mother and our
family circle would like to
convey our sincere
thanks to you, the nursing and
physiotherapy staff from ECAH.
The Team's combined
efforts enabled Dad to remain
at home as he wished, whilst
at the same time, receiving
the highest standard of
treatment and excellent
clinical care within the
community setting.
Recovery rate much
better. Mobility not
compromised by being
confined to hospital
bed/ward.
Dignity maintained
regarding personal
care.
