2019 saw giant steps in the progression
of the Sepsis priorities for the region.
It also delivered at Trust level with key
areas committing to the training and
delivery of safe and effective Sepsis
care.
Key areas include Emergency
Department on all three sites as well as
commitment from medicine, surgery and
critical care.
IHI supported the work progressing
throughout 2019 and culminated with
a joint regional QI meeting hosted by
South Eastern HSC Trust in QIIC.
Mr Seamus Megoran (Interim Chief Executive) opened the meeting and welcomed Dr Mark Roberts,
Clinical Director of HSCQI; Dr Kevin Rooney, Professor of Care Improvement and a member of IHI
Faculty; along with colleagues from Belfast HSC Trust.

There were progress presentations from Dr Conor O'Toole, Emergency Department in Ulster
Hospital; Dr Melissa King, Emergency Department in Lagan Valley Hospital and Emergency
Department colleagues from Belfast HSC Trust.
Presentations highlighted improvement in capturing and recording sepsis data across all sites as well
as the improvement measures taken to ensure the administration of intravenous antibiotics within one
hour of registration in the Emergency Department and within one hour of recognition of sepsis in the
ward environments.
