ALERT™ Course
The ALERT™ Course is a one day
multi-professional course created
to teach clinical staff a structured
and prioritised approach to the
assessment and management
of the acutely ill patient.
A manual is provided pre course
for candidates to prepare.
The course is made up of lectures,
case studies and scenarios. This
provides staff with the opportunity
to practice what they have learned
from both their manual and the
lectures.
In 2019, 143 of our nursing staff
attended the course alongside
medical, dental and physiotherapy
staff.
The feedback following the course
has been very positive with staff
stating they now feel more confident
in caring for deteriorating patients.
This month we are rolling out
Version 5 of the ALERT course.
The core changes in the
updated version are the
inclusion of NEWS2,
updated sepsis guidance,
acute kidney injury and
there is an updated
Human Factors lecture.
We look forward to
bringing this new version
of the course to the South
Eastern HSC Trust and
seeing the feedback
from our staff attending. Clinical staff at the ALERT™ Course one day
