Child Health Services
Family Nurse Partnership
The Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) is an early intervention preventative programme for first time
young parents. It involves intensive home visiting by a family nurse from early pregnancy until the
child reaches their second birthday. The programme is strength based and the materials used are
rooted in theories of attachment, self-efficacy and human ecology.
Goals for the programme include:
• Improved pregnancy outcomes
• Improved child health and development
• Improved parenting practices and behaviour.
The FNP Graduation event on 27 September 2019 was well attended by clients, dads and babies. It
was well received by clients, stakeholders and other professionals. The event was to celebrate those
clients who have completed and graduated from the Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) Programme
and to recognise their successes and achievements in becoming parents. The event welcomed
Director of Nursing, Nicki Patterson and Julia Lewis, Assistant Director for Children's Services.
