Medicine
Five new consulting rooms with self contained facilities were created in what had been the
Innovation Centre.
This new space provides facilities for Specialist Respiratory, Diabetic, Heart failure, Cardiac
Rehabilitation Nurses and AHP's to hold their own clinics, work collaboratively and provides rooms
for support services such as AAA screening, Family Planning, d-Nav® Insulin Guidance System,
Low Vision Services, Memory Clinic, Smoking Cessation and other support services.

Downe Hospital
Expansion of Services
We actively seek to expand our services within our resources.
Specialist Nurse Area
A decision to centralize Ophthalmology Services in the Downe and move services from Bangor, Ards
and some from Lagan Valley Hospitals has enabled us to begin to further develop our Ophthalmology
Service in providing general Ophthalmology Clinics.
This also now includes the Cataract Elective Care Centre. We work as part of the Ophthalmology
Team in the pre-assessment and post-operative follow-up of cataract patients who have their surgery
in our Day Procedure Unit. Although still in the early stages we anticipate being able to develop our
Service further and offer development opportunities for our staff.
Centralization of Ophthalmology Services
To enable us to continue to provide and support existing services in our local community we have
reviewed and adapted our area to continue to offer a wide range of services for all age groups at
the point of need.
In addition to supporting our existing services we have:
• Provided Outpatient facilities for two new medical consultants
• Provided accommodation for a photo triage nurse to support our Dermatology Team in the
early recognition of skin lesions
• Provided Nurse Led Clinics in several specialties
• Provided accommodation for an IBD nurse
• Offered additional ENT Outpatient sessions
• Provided development opportunities for our Nursing Team.
