The Facilitation and Leadership in Developing Practice Module
is a six day course designed to introduce key ideas around
leadership and the facilitation of learning and development in
practice. The course is aimed at participants who have a
commitment to facilitative approaches to learning and the
development of person centred practice.
In 2019 there was a huge amount of interest in the programme
from across all directorates meaning that the module ran
twice with around 36 participants, with two modules on-going
in 2020.
The module introduces key themes in adult learning, person-centred practice, practice development,
facilitation and leadership through a range of learning experiences, including: reflective activities,
small and large group-work, critical discussion, practical exercises as well as presentations
introducing key theories.
Each participant is supported to tailor the programme to their own learning needs through exploring
and understanding self, leadership styles, facilitation methods and person centeredness, as well as
making the links between all of these and their relevance to practice.
The programme is facilitated by Christine Boomer, UU Research Fellow and Elinor Welch, Lead for
Person Centred Practice.
