T
he 2nds had a thoroughly
enjoyable season that included
victories over Wellington and
Wells Cathedral School. Lots of
other games could have gone
either way, with just a single
goal the deciding factor. The Wellington game was
a really good team performance, with Lucie
Raleigh and Lucy Barker
scoring a goal apiece.
Jodie Burrows was our
main player, and put two
past the keeper to
complete a
comprehensive 4-0
victory.
The Taunton School
fixture was a very evenly
contested match, and we
played some excellent
hockey, particularly in the
second half. Sarah
Gardener led from the
front in midfield, and
Becca Doyle and Georgie
Thomas were superb in
defence, and we were
unlucky not to come
away with a draw.
T
he 3rds lost only twice in a
terrific season epitomised by a
great team spirit. In the first
game against Wellington, Alex
Taylor dominated the
defensive midfield and scored
two really properly struck goals, while Amanda
Bell helped herself to a hat-trick.
We played really strongly against Taunton School,
looking strong in midfield and playing most of the
game in the attacking half. Amanda Bell struck
twice and there was a goal for Mhairi Hall. It
was a frustrating afternoon at Queen's though,
with every 50-50 ball going to the opposition,
which meant we had a lot of defending to do,
which we did, Katie Butler, Hattie Clarke, Jessie
Danaher and player of the match Alex Thorne
keeping us within one goal of the opposition.
We played our best hockey of the term against
a mix of Bryanston's 2nds and 3rds. Katie
Butler again pulled off several excellent saves,
and Mhairi Hall worked tirelessly at feeding the
forwards, who scored twice without reply. We
then eked out a well-deserved 1-1 draw against
Canford, who were one seriously good goal up
in minutes. But we fought back strongly, with
Danni Taylor covering every inch of the pitch
with her tireless running in midfield.
It was tough going though on a muddy pitch at
Wells, but we battled hard for Amanda Bell to
chip in a good goal from a rebound early in the
second half. With only four minutes to go
Wells managed an unexpected equaliser, but
the win was secured by a well-struck Alice
Clarkson goal in the final minute.
Freya Broughton showed great skill as centreforward
at Blundell's, Alex Taylor was again
strong in defence, but the outstanding workrate
of player of the match Danni Taylor made the
biggest impression, as it did all season.
Some attractive passing hockey at Queen's saw
us control the first half, with Lucie Raleigh finding
the net after a fine sweeping move. Player of the
match Sarah Gardener and Rebecca Potter linked
well in midfield, but in the second half we looked
tired and lost our structure.
Against Wells Cathedral School we dominated
the first half, but conceded a sloppy goal just
before the interval. We stepped up two gears
in the second half, and equalised with a wellstruck
shot by Holly Domellof, before Sarah
Gardener pounced on the ball from short range
to score the winner. At Blundell's we created
several chances, but just failed to put the ball
in the net. Man of the match Harriet
Butterfield battled throughout the game in
defence, making some excellent tackles, and
Charlotte Davidson made several excellent
saves in goal.
After going a goal behind against Sherborne,
we equalised soon after with a well-taken goal
created by Alex Rodgers and put away by Holly
Domellof. A similar second half saw Lucy
Barker having to equalise again, after a good
move started by Rosie Main, to round off our
season with honours even.
