T
his was a season of fantastic
turnovers, in which we
converted four losses from
our Junior Colt year into
victories. Team spirit was
excellent throughout the
term, and much credit for this goes to skipper
XXX XXX.
Against Canford we reversed last year's 7-26
loss into an exciting 33-8 win, dominating from
the outset. Double-try scorer Alex Raleigh was
outstanding in the backs, with new arrival
James Toland adding two more, to round off a
thoroughly satisfying afternoon for the coach!
Clifton was a closer contest than the 5-22 score
might suggest, but on the day the better side
won. Alex Barrow played extremely well at flyhalf
though, and Richard Elliott was the pick of
the pack. Despite injuries, we put in a superb
performance against Blundell's, turning last
year's thumping 0-55 defeat into a tremendous
22-0 victory. Phil Downie was man of the
match with some great tackling, and Luke Gavin
scored an excellent individual try.
In an impressive 12-5 victory at King's,
Worcester, we had to turn in a spirited
performance. Tries came for Ben Broadhurst
and man of the match Nathan Smith, as we
turned over last year's defeat. Against Millfield
the defence was outstanding, and just two
lapses in concentration cost us what was in the
end a massive game.
King Edward's Bath though was a frustrating
game away from home, and we lost a dour
affair 3-0. However we then inflicted what we
think is the biggest ever defeat suffered by the
Taunton School Senior Colts, 37-0. In a
powerful display of support rugby, tries came
regularly, set up as ever by a magnificent
forward effort.
T
he Bs too turned round a
couple of defeats from last
year, showing plenty of pace
and skill. Good
communication and keeping
the ball alive at the breakdown
created plenty of scoring opportunities. It was
an excellent performance against Clifton, one of
the strongest sides on the circuit; we dominated
the first half but unfortunately failed to score. A
lack of focus straight after the interval led to two
Clifton tries, but we finished strongly with a try
from Toby Barnes Yallowley.
Like the As we were similarly weakened through
injury in the Blundell's fixture, but we gave a
spirited performance. Thor Lawson scored our
try, converted by Harvey Morris. We then
reversed another of last year's results with a
cracking 33-0 win up at Worcester. Tries were
scored by Toby Barnes Yallowley, Shane Scott,
Ian Giles, Alex Clarke and Ross Wright.
We started strongly at Millfield, out-rucking our
opponents at times, but they scored three
breakaway tries through their speedy left-wing.
Toby Barnes Yallowley countered though with a
try each side of half-time, and Harvey Morris
continued his excellent kicking form.
Harry Canning scored three tries in his first
outing for the Bs against Taunton School, in
what was a very much under-strength side.
Tom Smith dominated the line-out, and
superior rucking and mauling set up tries for
Alex Clarke and Harvey Morris. Many thanks
to guest performers Will Hardwick, Kelvin Chan
and David Cheung who enabled the fixture to
go ahead. The direct running of Chanin
Chaipraditrak was an inspiration to the other
forwards all season, while Ollie Dent captained
the side enthusiastically and reliably, and Felix
Ameye and Archie Berrow were the half-back
combination in almost all the games.
