T
he team clicked instantly in a
convincing win against West
Somerset Community College's
1st team, with some excellent
defending from Heather
McKenzie and a couple of
Holly Domelloff's trademark long shots from the
edge of the D sealing our victory.
We managed to take Wellington completely out
of the game, with some flying interceptions
from Alex Wynn, and Hattie Cunningham ruling
the court in our 41-5 win. Against Queen's we
struggled to play our game in the first quarter,
leaving us down by five goals. Luckily some
inspiration in the team talk meant we came
through to win with some excellent shooting
from Holly Domelloff and Rosie Main in the
final quarter.
Against Millfield there was some awesome
defending from Louise Webber and Tash
Germain, and we managed to sneak ourselves
a lead, with the scoreline 6-2 to us at halftime.
The second half was a lot closer with
both teams increasing their aggression, but
unfortunately we could not hold on to the lead.
At half-time against Canford we found
ourselves trailing, but a mixture of amazing
centre court play by Hattie Cunningham and
faultless shooting meant we were able to claw
our way back into the game, earning ourselves
a nail-biting 25-25 draw. We created many
chances against Clifton, and with Alex Wynn
relentless in our defending third, we managed
to ruin many of Clifton's chances, running out
comfortable
winners.
There was a
fantastic team effort
for the final match
against Blundell's.
Brilliant
interceptions from
Charis Elphinstone
and flawless
defence from Tash
Germain and Alex
Wynn left Blundell's
struggling to score -
a brilliant end to a
rewarding and
satisfying season!
T
he 3rds had a hugely
enjoyable season, writes Milly
Harrison, going on to win
against strong opposition
including Wellington, Taunton,
Clifton and King's Bruton.
Our most memorable match was against
Canford, and although we lost, our team spirit
certainly outdid the opposition's, and eventually
a two-minute laughing break became a
necessity! Harriet Butterfield and Emily Baker
worked well together in the D, shooting
extremely well with some incredible shots from
the edge of the circle from Harri.
The match against Taunton School demonstrated
our strong unity as a team, and despite a slow
start with both teams giving away possession
regularly, we gradually upped our tempo and
found the net more and more in the third quarter,
to create a seven-point lead. We maintained our
lead with some good interceptions, especially
from captain Milly Harrison.
Our last game against Blundell's saw us
dominating from the start with some fine
attacking play and excellent shooting. The
defence was as usual well-organised, restricting
Blundell's from entering our D to shoot. Jodie
Burrows and Alex Rodgers played extremely
well mid-court, with some fast and accurate
passes into our shooters. We had maintained
such a convincing lead by half-time that we
decided to do a whole quarter of bounce
passes which caused much amusement for
everybody!
There was always a great spirit within in our
team, whether it was at practice or whether we
were winning or losing at a match. None of
this would have happened without our coach
Mrs Berry who gave us great confidence and
kept up our motivation and determination (by
promising us muffins and donuts!!). A huge
thank you to all of the netball staff who have
made this season such an enjoyable and
successful one.
