J
ust the one defeat aginst Millfield
makes it a fantastic season for the
Under 14s. James Dent took 3 for
29 and James Jennigns conceded
just four runs from six overs as we
dismissed Bruton for 121. Todd
Barrett's 38 and Dan Benson's 28
saw us home with 14 overs to spare.
We did well to turn round the Queen's game
after a rather low-key start. Dan Benson and
Todd Barrett batted well against a useful attack
to set up a good win, supported ably by 27
from Matt Harden. We never really dominated
the Canford attack, but thanks to a useful 24
not out from James Dent managed a
respectable 153 for 8. Two wickets for James
Jennings in the first over of Canford's reply put
paid to their chances, and there were further
wickets for Jennings and James Dent.
We managed to restrict Clifton to 131, Todd
Barrett being the pick of the bowlers with
seven overs of well-controlled leg-spin. The
batting was much better, as Todd Barrett took
the initiative against a useful attack for his
excellent 85 not out, supported by Dan
Benson, Matt Harden and Tristan Marshall, to
secure a good win with overs to spare.
Put in on a green wicket by Taunton School, we
posted a respectable 176 for 8 thanks to 62
from Todd Barrett and 33 from Tristan
Marshall. Taunton however looked to be
cruising for victory before a resilient effort in
the field and an important run out by Olly Gibb
meant they fell 14 runs short.
Chasing 130 against Monmouth, we put
ourselves in a strong position with 49 from
Matt Harden. This wasn't quite enough to
make the game safe, and it was down to
Archie Rose with 23 not out off 13 balls to
secure victory by one wicket off the
penultimate ball of the match. An excellent
end to a brilliant season!
T
he Bs recorded excellent
victories over King's Bruton,
Queen's, Canford and Taunton
School. Batting first against
Bruton, some hard hitting by
Joe Williams and good
running by Jack Williams towards the end of
the innings was overshadowed by man of the
match Charlie Marshall who scored 41 and
took 3 for 2 as Bruton subsided to 36 for 8 in
their allotted 25 overs.
Jack Foll took 5 for 11 as we bowled out
Millfield for 129, but sadly we could only
manage 61 ourselves. We scored 158 for 9
against Queen's, with Ali Sewell the pick of the
batters, but man of the match was Jack Foll for
his second consecutive five-wicket haul, as
Queen's were bowled out for 47.
At home to Canford we reached 133 thanks to
an opening partnership of 67 between Matt
Jaffa and Charlie Marshall, and we then
bowled out Canford for 81. We restricted a
useful Clifton batting line-up to 152, with
Jordan Kanz and Jack Williams taking two
wickets each. Despite a well-worked 35 from
George Bayless we fell 19 runs short, though
Greg Albery batted well for his 24 not out.
Ali Sewell scored 30 against Taunton School,
and good accurate bowling by Ivo Gavin and
Jack Foll ensured a 22-run victory. A strong
bowling display should have dismissed
Monmouth for around 50, but too many
catches were put down. A poor batting display
then meant we lost by 28 runs - a
disappointing end to what was otherwise an
excellent season.
The Cs had three games, losing to Millfield, but
beating Canford by nine wickets, and Taunton
School by seven wickets.
