T
he Under 14s started slowly,
but over the course of the
season worked really hard at
their game, and showed
tremendous progress. In the
opening match against
Wellington we held more experienced
opposition in the first half, and were unlucky
not to score. Megan Scott played superbly in
goal, Hermione Warmington scored an excellent
goal, and player of the match was Holly Davis
for her determination in defence.
Victoria Clark battled hard in midfield at
Taunton School, and Hermione Warmington
eventually found the net from a narrow angle,
which gave us a well-deserved goal. A couple
of defensive lapses gave away unnecessary
goals at Queen's, but there was a big
improvement in many areas of the team's game.
Captain Kate Webster was fearless in defence.
Against Bryanston we turned in our best
performance of the term so far, really playing as
a team and pressing up front. Charlotte Parris
swept in a well-taken goal, while player of the
match Lucy Sharp created a whole host of
opportunities with her angled running and
positioning off the ball.
Canford were confident and strong on the ball,
while we were still on the bus. The defence
worked tirelessly though, and the second half
was well-competed, with an exceptional
performance from Michelle Pearn in midfield
and several good saves by Megane Scott.
Unfortunately against Well's we let in a soft
goal in the first five minutes. Our midfield then
played some great hockey, but we didn't take
our chances. A superb fightback saw two good
goals from Issy Germain and Michelle Pearn.
Disappointing not to win - we must be more
clinical in defence and attack.
We saved our best till last though with an
outstanding win at Sherborne in the final match
of the season. The team really went from
strength to strength in the second half of term,
and their hard work produced its just rewards.
Connie Holmes did a fine job in defence stepping
up from the Bs, and player of the match Tori
Clark showed great vision and distribution skills
at the bottom of the diamond. Although trailing
3-2 in the second half, we battled back, to claim
victory with goals from Lucy Sharp, Megan
Ameye, and a brace for Issy Germain. We'll be
coming back strongly next year!
T
he Bs grew in confidence as
the season progressed. In the
opening match against
Wellington, Lara Clark, Flora
Webster and Charlotte Palmer
impressed throughout, and we
finished strongly, which we thought was a good
sign for the rest of the season.
There was some terrific play in our 1-1 draw at
Taunton School, with strong performances from
sweeper Connie Holmes and Lara Clark. It was
a determined display in the second half, and
we were unlucky not to secure a win.
It was an excellent effort against Bryanston,
and we were pretty confident with the score 11
ten minutes into the second half. However
we lost our winning aggression rather, though
Lucy Dunham made several excellent saves.
Against Well's Cathedral School we played well
but lost narrowly - the fixture against Blundell's
though was a fantastic game, and we almost
scored early in the first half through Lara
Rodgers. Adelaide Green kept Blundell's at bay
in goal, and there was great hockey from
Annabel Lumley and Charlotte Palmer. We
really enjoyed our first term of hockey at King's,
and are looking forward to next year!
