W
e started off really
well with the first
match against West
Somerset Community
College, which we
won 13-6 after
taking an early lead. Wellington was our next
match, and it wasn't easy playing on a full-size
court, but we still played well and there were
some excellent interceptions from Hannah
Cartwright and Alice Brooksbank in defence.
One of our best matches was against Queen's,
a 16-16 draw! It was an exciting match with
some excellent shots - Queen's scored on the
final whistle but it was disallowed! Taunton
School was definitely our best match. We all
played really well, and there was some
fantastic shooting from Lucy Chapman and
Danni Harvey. We ended up losing 12-24, but
in the second half we were definitely the better
side!
Against Kings Bruton we were winning until the
last quarter when we just gave the ball away and
ended up losing 13-15. Then we played Clifton,
going 1-5 down in the first quarter, drawing the
second and third quarters to make it 9-13, and
then won the final quarter to finish 12-14. Had
we been playing fifths instead of quarters I'm
sure we'd have taken the lead! Excellent netball
was played by the whole team and this renewed
our spirits for our final match against Blundell's.
The wind really didn't help either team, but we
played some outstanding netball, and the goals
kept going in. In the end we won 11-8 - a
great end to our season! Coach Mrs Butler
writes: "They really learned to play as a proper
team towards the end of the season, resulting
in some truly impressive netball against strong
opposition. Every match was keenly supported
by several parents who also commented on the
team's improvement. Alice Davies as captain
deserves special mention, leading the team
through example."
T
he Bs started their season
trailing 7-3 at half-timeagainst
Wellington, but we came out
with determination to win,
and excellent shooting by
Beccy Jackson ensured an
exciting 11-10 win. Next was a neck and neck
battle against Queen's, when one of our best
shooters injured themselves, but we kept strong
and lost by just a single point with excellent
play from Sinnie Kaorattana.
When we played Canford the unexpected injury to
captain Hatti Mason left the team with one player
less than the opposition but we did well
nonethekess. With a side weakend by injury
against Taunton School we still managed some
excellent netball, with a strong performance from
Hatti Mason and excellent shooting by Lulu Smyth.
We knew the match against King's Bruton was
going to be tough without our usual team, but
luckily the Under14 Bs didn't have a match, so
thank you very much to Charlotte Parris,
Charlotte Palmer and Lucy Sharp who all
stepped up. There was great shooting from
Lulu Smyth and Sinnie Kaorattana in a match
we won 21-9. Still weakened by inkjury we
played Clifton, losing 10-18, but with strong
play from Hatti Mason and Jossie Zilkha.
At last we had our whole team back for the
final match against Blundell's. Everyone in the
team put 110% effort into the match, but we
trailed throughout the match until the last
quarter when we fought hard to won 21-20!
Thanks to Olivia Farmer and Jodie Keily who
played in some of our matches, and also to
Miss Davies who has been the best coach in
world, and even when we feel down she boosts
our confidence. Thank you so much!
