V
ictory over King's Bruton
and a well-earned draw
against Sherborne were the
highlights of the Senior
Colts' season. Things
started well as we
dominated the first half of the opening game of
the season against Cheltenham, with Richard
Elliott scoring early on. Nathan Smith
controlled the game impressively on debut at
sweeper, but in the end Cheltenham ran out
narrow winners.
Against Millfield we found ourselves involved in
an even first half, but after the interval
Millfield's skill told as we got tired and
concentration lapsed. Nevertheless it was a
very good team effort.
The Sherborne fixture was a scrappy affair in
which we had far more clear-cut chances than
the opposition. An excellent goal by Harry
Canning was cancelled out by a late Sherborne
goal, preventing a victory which could easily
have been ours. Against Canford we put in the
performance of the season. Harvey Morris was
outstanding in goal, and Miles Lenygon also
played superbly.
Against Taunton School though we never really
got into our game. Harry Canning and Richard
Elliott both scored, but we were always playing
catch-up. After this disappointing performance
it was good to finish our season with an
impressive 2-1 win over King's Bruton. There
were excellent performances from Harry
Cunningham and Richard Elliott, and Harvey
Morris excelled in goal. We're looking forward
to impressive things to come as we move on up
to the senior hockey sides.
T
he Bs enjoyed a fantastic
season, overwhelming
victories against Taunton
School and Clifton being the
highlight. Against Queen's we
had lots of possession in the
first half, and played good structured hockey,
taking a deserved 1-0 lead thanks to a Luke
Gavin goal. In the second half we had to
defend strongly, before goals from Tom Parris
and Luke Gavin again made sure of the win.
Against Sherborne we had to endure a boring
0-0 first half, but after the interval it became
an eight-goal thriller! Defence was a bit
disappointing, but there was good attacking
play, with Alex Creswick and Tom Smith
particularly catching the eye.
The Canford fixture was a cracking game, in
which we dominated the first half with goals
from Luke Gavin and Ben Foll. The second
half though was a tight affair needing excellent
defence from Alex's Creswick and Clarke - man
of the match in the 2-0 win was Sam Turvill.
It was an awesome performance against Taunton
School, with Ben Foll contributing a hat-trick to
the 7-0 win. There was also a brace apiece for
Thor Lawson and Luke Gavin. Against King's
Bruton we had to endure a frustrating 2-2 draw,
on top throughout but conceding two soft goals.
Alex Clarke and Ben Foll scored our goals - we
almost threw it away conceding a penalty stroke
in the dying seconds, but it was brilliantly saved
by Shane Scott.
Against Clifton we overwhelmed our opposition.
There were two goals each for Sam Turvill,
George Lock, and Nick Akiwumi, with Ben Foll
completing the scoring. A great way to finish a
brilliant season!
