T
he Under 14s had a mixed
season, winning comfortably
against sides like Plymouth
College, Queen's and King's
Bruton, but finding te going
tough against some bigger,
stronger, faster sides. There is plenty of talent
in the side though, and they will improve as
they grow.
Spirited performances by Archie Rose, George
Chapman, James Walsh, Harry Hudson and
skipper Robin Danaher pushed Canford to the
limit, and we should have taken the lead twice
in the second half. Todd Barrett finished off an
excellently-worked try.
We put in an excellent performance in wet
conditions at Plymouth College, with superb
work at the breakdown proving the difference
between the two teams. Robin Danaher
(twice), Harry Hudson, George Chapman and
Lloyd Griffiths all scored excellent tries, and
Josh Lambert had a very solid game, creating
good clean ball for the backs to work with.
In a slow start against King's, Worcester, we
conceded two soft tries early on, but Todd
Barrett and then Robin Danaher levelled the
scores. George Chapman finished off a
sweeping move to give us the lead, but we
conceded in the final two minutes, denying us
what would have been a famous victory.
Against King Edward's, Bath we were 7-5 up
at half-time through a well-worked Todd Barrett
try, Excellent pressure at the breakdown kept
the game close, but two soft tries towards the
end proved our undoing.
The King's Bruton fixture saw a superb
performance to round off the season, rucking
magnificently against a bigger pack. The backs
exploited this excellent platform, with wingers
Walsh and Griffiths scoring seven tries between
them. Such a convincing win against one of
the strongest sides Bruton have had for some
while is a mark of the progress made by this
team who promise much for King's rugby in the
future.
