C
aptained by Matt Butterfield,
the season was attacked with
great enthusiasm. The team
had a mixed season with
some excellent wins against
King's Bruton and Well's
Cathedral School and a near victory on grass
against Sherborne. Matt Butterfield played
exceptionally well throughout and caused many
opponents to have a difficult match. Ben
Taylor partnered Matt and together they won
some excellent matches.
Michael Ellis and Tom Lau were a strong
partnership and with the combination of Mike's
strong volleying and Tom's powerful backcourt
play they managed to shake up some top
pairings. The final pairing of Tom Walters and
Charlie Marr improved significantly through the
season. They always played with enthusiasm
and were determined to play every point to
their full capabilities which was great to see.
Ricco Yeung also stepped in to play a few
matches alongside Tom Lau. Ricco played
really well and always kept his cool. Thanks
must go to him for his help in managing all the
teams during this season.
Special thanks must go to Matt Butterfield, Ben
Taylor and Michael Ellis who have contributed
a lot to boys tennis over the last five years. It
was fitting that Matt Butterfield went on to win
the boys senior tennis final. They will be truly
missed for their enthusiasm and, at some
points, their slightly alternative style of play.
