2nd VI
3rd VIT
he 2nds recorded an
outstanding unbeaten season!
Going one better than the 1st
VI against Blundell's, Charis
Elphinstone and Emma ClydeSmith
were an impressive
unbeaten partnership, and all the 2nds' pairs
beat their equals. The following week in the
clean sweep over Taunton School, matches
were closer affairs, with each pair dropping just
one match each.
Wellington too was a closer fixture, before we
eventually ran out 6-3 winners. There were long
rallies in all the matches, while Mel Palmer and
Katie Vickers had a real battle in their final game,
eventually winning the tie-break 10-8. These
two played superbly again in the 7-2 win over
Canford, using a variety of shots and playing with
great intelligence. Tori Canning's new partner
Isabel Petri made her debut and showed her
worth, playing some great returns. Emma ClydeSmith
and Alex McKean were also on top form
and never stopped running all afternoon!
Charis Elphinstone and Louise Webber dominated
in the Millfield fixture, dropping only three games
in their three sets. Emma Clyde-Smith and Alex
McKean again played superbly, losing only to
Millfield's first pair. In the final match of the
season the 2nds were outstanding and didn't
drop a set, beating Queen's 9-0! On debut for
the 2nds Harriet Butterfield played really well,
helped by the experience of Louise Webber.
Heather McKenzie and Tori Canning dropped only
three games, as did Emma Clyde-Smith and Alex
McKean, to round off a memorable term's tennis.
T
he 3rds had another very
successful season, losing just
the one fixture, narrowly
against Canford. In the
opening match against
Blundell's, Caroline Lloyd and
Harriet Butterfield won all their games, while
the other pairs each managed a win, securing a
well-deserved victory overall. Things were far
less close against Taunton School. The 3rds
lost only eight games out of 52, with Freya
Broughton and Danni Taylor not dropping a
single game all afternoon, as we ran out
comfortable 9-0 winners!
We were far too strong for Wellington, with Isabel
Petri playing particularly well in her first game for
the 3rds. She and Freya Broughton won all their
games, while Harriet Butterfield and Caroline
Lloyd continued their unbeaten run from the
previous week, dropping only two games.
Things were a lot tougher though against a strong
Canford side - Verity Clark though was partnered
by her 4th form sister Tori, and played fantastically
well, winning two of their three games, and only
narrowly losing the third, as we went down 3-6.
Against Millfield though we dominated all
afternoon. There was a fantastic performance
from Harriet Butterfield and Caroline Lloyd,
moving up to play first pair. Heather McKenzie
and Sarah Gardener also played well, beating
Millfield's first pair in an extremely exciting
match, as we ended our season with a
resounding 8-1 victory.
The 4ths had two fixtures - a narrow defeat on
the opening afternoon of the season against
Blundell's, Rebecca Turner and Rebecca Potter
winning all their matches without dropping a
single game. And then a thrillingly close victory
over Canford, having won just one more game!
