A
huge amount of progress
was made by the Under 15s
during the course of the
season. In the opening
match against Blundell's
there were many
encouraging passages of play, which augured
well for the rest of the term. The Taunton
School fixture the next week however resulted
in a comfortable 7-2 victory.
The Wellington match was a far closer affair,
with lots of long sets and deuce points.
Finishing 5-4 winners overall reflected the
tremendous effort put into the afternoon by the
whole team. In the Canford fixture there was a
long drawn-out first game for second pair
Jossie Zilkha and Elle Domellof, who were
unfortunate to lose two match points. Their
final match was another marathon tie-break -
which they eventually won!
We enjoyed an exciting victory over Millfield, in
a match that again involved some very long
sets. Milla Bell and Hattie Mason kept cool
heads, and won a crucial and exciting tiebreak.
The Sherborne fixture was an extremely
close match, in which the whole team played
with huge determination, and only narrowly
missed out on a win.
And we ended our season with a 9-0
whitewash over Queen's, in a thoroughly
excellent all-round performance. The future of
senior girls tennis at King's looks bright, as this
group of girls moves up the school!
The Bs managed to find themselves up against
some really strong opposition during the term!
It was a difficult afternoon against a talented
Blundell's side to start the season, but we
bounced back strongly against Taunton School,
when we notched up a comfortable 7-2 win.
An excellent debut from Laura Smith
contributed to a 6-3 win over Wellington. She
and partner Olivia Taylor managed not to drop
a set all afternoon. But against Canford we
never really got into our stride, though Olivia
Farmer played well and won some difficult
points.
Although we lost to Millfield, all three pairs put
in a really good effort, and managed to pick up
games throughout the afternoon. In the
Sherborne fixture we put up a well-fought
battle, particularly Sophie Pearson-Miles and
Alejandra Mairata, but the opposition
unfortunately proved too strong.
Against Queen's we had to include several
swimmers and non-tennis players because of
the county athletics championships which were
happening on the same afternoon, but put in a
superb effort, fighting for every point.
Whatever the opposition, we really enjoyed the
season, and look forward to taking part in
senior tennis teams next year!
