2nd XID
espite rain playing havoc
with the first half of the
season, the 2nds managed
to string together four
consecutive wins after halfterm.
Put into bat against
King's Bruton, we reached 175, Ed Kean topscoring
with a well-crafted 47, and George Lock
impressing with his 26. Good fielding by George
Lock especially and aggressive bowling by Harry
Canning kept the opposition to 111 for 5.
We had a very close game against Millfield,
despite scoring only 122 in our innings, but
sadly, not even a couple of superb catches
could prevent Millfield winning with just an
over to spare. Ed Walker impressed with his
23 against Canford, and George Lock played
some excellent strokes in his 50. Charlie Close
then tore the heart out of Canford's innings
taking 4 for 12 in our 166-run victory.
Ed Kean saw us through early difficulties
against Clifton, and ended on a highly
impressive 60 not out, helped by 27 from
Harvey Morris and 36 not out from skipper
Henry Cunningham, as we won by six wickets
with four overs to spare. And we bowled
Taunton School out for 127 in just 23 overs,
Charlie Close and Henry Potter both taking
three wickets. Peter Hale then hammered their
attack for 85 in five overs, as we won in just
nine overs.
Ed Kean got us off to good start at Monmouth
with his 79, but then a whirlwind 109 off 60
balls by Henry Cunningham helped us to a
massive 279 for 8 in 35 overs. Monmouth
always struggled, with Ben de Figueiredo taking
four wickets and Peter Hale an excellent catch,
as we rounded off a thoroughly satisfying
season.
A
bly captained by Oli Davies,
the 3rds suffered just two
defeats, and managed to
record wins over Millfield,
Canford, Clifton and Taunton
School. The Millfield win
was thanks largely to 50 from Harvey Morris,
and useful contributions by Ross Wright and
Ian Hargreaves. The Queen's game was a
remarkable match, as we slumped to 71 all out
against Queen's 2nd XI. Opposition wickets fell
steadily until they were on 68 for 9 in the 21st
over, but they managed to score the winning
runs before we could get the last man out.
Canford's 3rd
XI borrowed
Quin Taylor as
they were a
man short,
and struggled
to 128 all out
after 29
overs, Philip
Downie taking
4 for 31.
Openers Peter
Hale and Ali
Klinkenberg
knocked off
the runs in
just over 10 overs, Peter Hale scoring 95 not
out, including nine sixes and nine fours.
Simon Baker bowled well against Clifton, taking
4 for 22 including a double-wicket maiden.
Peter Hale began briskly, taking just four overs
to notch up his fifty, Ali Klinkenberg scored 37
and Bertie Broughton saw us home with an
excellent 42 not out.
Against Taunton School Ali Klinkenberg and
Tom Jennings batted well, Will Smith scored
31 and Josh Isaacs 48. We skittled out the
opposition for 45, Matt Bray enjoying a triplewicket
maiden, and Shane Scott taking two
wickets in two balls to finish the match, and
round off the season in style.
This year we managed fixtures for both a 4th XI
and a 5th XI! The 4ths beat Millfield by 87
runs, with Peter Hale scoring 48, and an
excellent all-round bowling display, supported
by some great catches by Felix Ameye, Oliver
Dent and Matt Billing, as we dismissed Millfeld
for just 62. The 5th XI both opened and
finished their unbeaten season with a towering
win over Queen's 3rd XI. Alex Clarke scored
77 and Richard Dawson 40 to take us to 247
for 9. In reply Queen's were bowled out for
55, with Leo Feilden taking 3 for 7 and Max
Harvey 3 for 13.
