T
his was a fantastic season in
which the team lost only to
Millfield 8-20. We recorded
nine victories, and put 40 points
on Clifton, Blundell's, King's
Worcester and Taunton School.
Powerful forward play,
with skipper Harry
Brimacombe leading
from the front, always
supplied the backs with
plenty of ball.
Newcomer Josh Isaacs
powered over for three
short-range tries against
Canford, with Charlie
Close adding another,
before Ed Nash rounded
things off with a superb
individual effort from 50
metres after slick
handling.
Hooker Grant Little and
fly-half Charlie Marr
both scored twice
against Clifton, with
Matt Butterfield scoring on debut, while against
Plymouth College good handling and pace in
the backs led to tries for Matt Butterfield,
Henry Potter, Gavin Penn and Ben de
Figueiredo. We dominated upfront against
Blundell's, and when the backs moved it, holes
appeared and tries were scored, including good
efforts from James Pope, Henry Potter,
Matthew Bray and Max Harvey - Richard
Dawson and Charlie Close were outstanding in
the pack.
It took an early Monmouth try to galvanise the
team into action, and we scored three excellent
tries before half-time. Powerful running by
Josh Isaacs led to another try, there was an
opportunist try for Chris Morris, and a scorcher
from Henry Potter on the final whistle.
Playing uphill at Bruton against the elements,
we had to survive pressure from a spirited
Bruton side who scored first. Soon afterwards
though, man of the match Grant Little crossed
the line, and Ben de Figueiredo rounded off a
fine season, scampering 50 metres from the
base of a ruck to score. Plenty to live up to for
next years 2nds!
W
on six lost three was
the story of the 3rd
XV season. The
forwards were
generally excellent at
retaining the ball at
breakdowns, and the rapid backline revelled in
the space this created, with some quite superb
finishing. Early pressure against Clifton
resulted in a try in the corner for winger
Kristian King, and we sealed victory with two
further tries in the second half, the first a team
effort finished off by Lee Paisley, and the
second a superb solo effort by Kristian King.
Against Plymouth College it was champagne
rugby all the way, with lots of good handling
and support play leading to an amazing 81
points tally. Skipper Lee Paisley scored four
tries, and it was good to see Fritz Heine score
his first ever try. And then convert it.
We managed to put together some fast-flowing
rugby against King's, Worcester, with the ball
being kept impressively alive for long passages
of play. Kristian King helped himself to a hattrick
with some dazzling footwork, there were
two for Lee Paisley, and Harry Slater added his
name to the scoresheet with a well-taken try.
We started strongly against Millfield, and at
times played some brilliant rugby. Millfield
however gradually asserted their authority,
though we were rewarded with tries by Jack
Graham and Lee Paisley. In a thrilling game
against Monmouth we showed resilience and
determination against a strong opposition pack.
Using our superior pace though on their wide
1st XV pitch, wingers Ross Chadwick and
Kristian King shared the tries in an excellent
26-15 victory.
Against Taunton School we got early points on
the board through Lee Paisley, then Rob
Seabourne scored after an excellent trademark
dummy, followed by Tom le Gallais. And we
managed to cap a tremendous season with a
17-0 victory over King's, Bruton.
