House Reports
It was all change in Bishop Fox this
year with Mr Wood, Head of Drama,
taking over as Housemaster and
Mr Butterworth, from Economics,
as the new Deputy. House Captain was
Ben Pritchard and Vice-Captain Lorenz
Holzner.
The House got off to a cracking start on the
first weekend, with all the boys enjoying
a cooked breakfast in the Housemaster's
residence, leading to the now-legendary
Fox sausage-eating contest. The year was
punctuated with Mrs Wood's constant
supply of birthday cake, which was
produced on an industrial scale.
The Christmas celebration cabaret enjoyed
a revival and is now set to become a fixture
of the festive season. This year also saw a
change from the traditional Burns Night
supper, with a new 6.2 formal dinner.
At the end of the spring term we formally
said goodbye to Mr Belfield as a Fox tutor
as he left the school for new challenges.
He had made an enormous contribution to
Fox as Deputy and then tutor, and a huge
pizza party in the courtyard seemed an
appropriate send-off.
Fox Rocks goes from strength to strength
as the sell-out House event of the year -
for the first time being overseen by the 6.1
boys. Special mention goes to Jonny Seale,
and his outstanding musical directorship,
and new theatre manager Mr Bartlett,
who added a whole new level of technical
standards - including securing the services
of Muse's own sound engineer to mix the
show!
The Sporting Fox
Despite having some of the top school
sportsman in the house - including Neil
Brand, who, as cricket captain, broke the
school run record over the season - Fox
seemed to be constantly in second position
in House competitions. The steeplechase
was an extremely close-run thing, with a
top time from Henry Willis, and there were
many individual achievements on Sports
Day, including victor ludorum awards
for Kazi Symanski, Cameron Smith and
Conrad Garbutt - and congratulations
to Jevon Garbutt, who won six events.
Special mention must go to Junior tennis
and the winning pair of Devell Stevens and
Toby Vickers. Spirit to compete was high
as always and next year we are hoping to
carry away a few more trophies!
Cultural highlights saw Flynn Oliphant
take the lead in Godspell and an
outstanding debut from Lorcan CudlipCook in Guys
and Dolls. There has
been some huge academic achievement
as well, borne out by some great results
in exams: congratulations to Lorenz
Holzner for securing a place at Oxford
to study Biochemistry. Over the summer
the builders are moving in and we look
forward to a transformed
Fox, with virtually the whole
house redecorated and the
prospect of an exciting new
look and feel to the House.
The year ended with a
massive hog roast, which was
eagerly devoured by the boys
on a really great evening in
the courtyard, with a few
tearful goodbyes. As well
as an outstanding group of
leavers we also said goodbye
to Mr Similien, Mr Scott and
Mr Howarth as the House
teams were reorganised.
