Away from the more glamorous events, there were a series of school
matches. The Blundell's fixture saw many fine performances in
rather windy conditions. There were wins for: Henry Willis, Emma
Smith, Ellen Cooke, Joe Cooke (for all 3 jumps), Chloe Martin,
Maisie Brown and Oliver Fox - with the Senior Girls the most
successful team, coming in 2nd.
The Miler's Club meeting at Millfield saw some great performances,
including a magnificent final sprint from Henry Willis, prior to
winning the Taunton Area event. Royce Tooth, Rory NixonEckersall and Joe Cooke all helped the Senior Boys to a good
finish against nine other schools at Millfield, with the A and B relay
teams finishing the meeting with 1st and 3rd positions respectively.
Oliver Guess demonstrated team spirit by trying the javelin, while
Oliver Fox won both the 3000m and 1500m and Joe Cooke set a
school record in the high jump. Bryn Llewellyn stormed to a fine
run in the 400m, whilst Rory Smith shouted loudest in the shot
and discus.
The Junior athletes went on to the National Cup, with fine
performances from Aaron Chapman, Oliver Gibbon, Grace Albery
and Gemma Bulbulian - the high jumpers teaming up with Emma
Smith and Antonia Garton-Sprenger to all set personal bests in the
Millfield meeting.
It was a busy term for all the athletes, and to achieve these results
with so many other demands on their time - particularly academic
- is a fine performance.
