The new season was given added excitement because
all our home games could now be played on the
brand new courts on the main school site. There were
some welcome side-effects: not only was punctuality
improved, with the short distances from boarding houses, but
more people watched netball than ever before. Luckily, we had
managed to pick up more fixtures at senior level and for our
U15C and U14C teams than in previous years.
The 1sts started the season in good form, winning their first three
games against the OA's, Blundell's and Queen's. The team had
many 6.2 girls and was captained excellently and passionately
by Gussy Hydleman. Unfortunately the weather then disrupted
their season and several games were cancelled. However, they
played well in the county tournament, coming third and winning
against Wellington, Wells, Yeovil College, and Queen's. They
narrowly lost against Taunton, where they won the first quarter
convincingly. They also notched up a good win against Colyton
Grammar school (who are always very good). Player of the
season went to Sophia Collins for her excellent defensive work.
