Another weather-affected season unfortunately cut
down the fixture programme, but we still managed to
play a good number of very competitive games.
Under Captain Allie Williams, the 1st XI enjoyed wins
over Blundell's and Wellington and a well fought draw at Millfield.
All, however, rested on a final league-decider game against local
rivals Taunton. On yet another rain-soaked afternoon, and with
both teams knowing the title was at stake, the desire to win was
clear to see on both sides. Taunton took an early lead, but after
the half-time break King's came out strongly, and a penalty from
Connor Sailes drew the game level. With minutes to go both
teams were searching for the decisive winner, but it was King's
who secured their first ever ISCA Cup title, thanks to a Bryn
Llewellyn 'striker's finish' from three yards out.
Well led by Captain Gilbert Kelsey, the 2nd XI secured draws
against Millfeld and Blundell's and a win over Wellington.
The U16s had their first outing in the ISFA U16 Cup, with a
narrow defeat away at Bedales School.
The increase in the number of footballers joining King's is
reflected in the younger year groups, who have shown good
progress. The U15s improved consistently as the season
progressed, and ended their campaign with a draw against
Sidcot School and wins over Taunton Academy and Sherborne.
The U14s also ended on a high, with a first-ever win (4-3) over
Castle School.
The annual OA fixture saw the return
of a strong side and an OA win over
the King's 1st XI. Led by former
1st Captain Joe Watts, the OAs
were clearly set on overturning the
previous year's defeat and pressed
hard from the start. A young King's
1st XI battled well, but in a game
of many chances at both ends it was
the OAs who took theirs, to win the
match 3-0.
However, the highlight of the term
was claimed by some (mainly the
staff) to be the inaugural King's
Staff v King's Dads match. A high
quality, high tempo game saw the
Dads take an early lead, but the staff
soon settled and some skilful play
eventually gave them just rewards,
with goals from Mr Lewis and Mr
Woodman and a share of the honours
at 3-3.
