King's girls have certainly claimed the limelight.
Captain Erin Slade led in an unbeaten season in
which they won the South West 6's and ISFA National
7's at U18 and U15 and progressed to the ISFA
National U18 Girls' Cup Final at Boreham Wood FC, home to
Arsenal Ladies FC. There they faced Sevenoaks School, and the
girls showed typical spirit. Goals from Katy Hanscomb (2), Erin
Slade and Maisie Brown secured a 4-0 win to confirm King's as
the champions of Independent Schoolgirls' Football in England.
U18 girls Erin Slade, Katy Hanscomb, Phoebe Smith and
Shannon Vickery represented King's in the ISFA South West
U18 Squad at the Harrow School tournament in March, and Katy,
Shannon and Leea Dod were all selected for the ISFA England
U18 Squad. Our junior girls have also been active and there is
some good emerging talent.
Beyond the Pitch
The inter-House Futsal League is a very popular programme for
both boys and girls, with weekly participation at all ages. We
have also hosted a number of Sunday afternoon futsal taster
afternoons for prep schools.
Off the pitch, the football leadership programme continued to
grow, with 16 boys and girls completing their FA Junior Football
Leaders Award (see p40). As well as coaching in primary and
prep schools, these leaders have also organised and hosted
futsal tournaments for visiting prep schools and the Somerset
FA County Schools Futsal Finals.
The progress of King's Football was acknowledged by Donna
McIvor, National Football Development Manager (Education) at
the FA, who identified our football programme as an excellent
example within the Children & Young People Partnership model,
and cited the King's example in presentations to County FA's
around the country.
