40s & 50s Annual Reunion
25 April 2014
The annual luncheon reunion of OAs who attended King's
in the 1940s and -50s was held at the RAF Club, Piccadilly
(organised by Colin Bulloch). It was a well-attended event, and
guests enjoyed a three-course lunch, followed by a speech by
Headmaster Richard Biggs. They were also able to review the
first edition of the '40s and 50s Memories' booklet.
The school Archivist, Alison Mason, spoke about the current
WWI project to publish a book about OAs who fought in the War.
This will be incorporated into the school WWI commemorations
over the next few years. An on-going Archive project has been
the digitisation of past copies of the Aluredian, to preserve them
for posterity and allow easy access for research.
Benefactors' Day
7 May 2014
OAs and members of the King's community who have supported
King's College - by leaving a gift in their will, or being major
donors - were invited to the annual Benefactors' Day. The day
started with a service in the Chapel led by Father Mark Smith and
the Reverend Canon Brendan Clover. Guests were then taken
on a school tour and even sat in on lessons. After lunch in the
Sixth Form dining
room there was an
informal concert
in the music
department, a visit
to the Archives and
- to really relive
old memories - a
visit to the firing
range. Afternoon
tea was served
while watching the
U14B cricket match
against Exeter
Cathedral School.

OA Day
28 June 2014
On 28 June King's
opened its doors
for the annual OA
Day. We welcomed
OAs young and old
back to the school,
with partners,
friends and family, to enjoy a relaxed day exploring old haunts
and visiting many of the new facilities for pupils.
Current pupils were tour guides around the grounds, guiding
OAs through the more recent additions to the King's landscape,
while ensuring old favourites such as the Chapel, dining room and
Woodard room were visited. The Woodard room was the venue
for a concert performed by current pupils, which was very well
received.
Other guests visited the Archives to look through the special
displays laid out by Alison Mason, hunting with particular
enthusiasm for pictures of themselves from the school records.
Afternoon tea and Pimms were then served to round off the day.
Athletics Supper
28 June 2014
Twenty-four guests attended the Athletics supper, honouring
the hard work that Graham and Patricia Hall have put in to
developing athletics at King's. Drinks were served on the Meynell
lawn (sun shining, despite the earlier downpours) and a group
photograph was taken, which was framed and sent to Graham
and Patricia as a memento of the evening.
