Aluredian
Forsyth, Georgie Fame and Alan Price. He
often gigged in London late into the night, but
was always at King's on time, having spent the
night in his van, breakfast prepared on a small
stove in the Carpenter car park.
He took over running the jazz band some seven
years ago, producing recordings and a prolific
collection of arrangements. He has left us his
complete collection of works as a leaving gift,
for which we are hugely grateful.
Anne Denning has retired from King's after 25
years as our physics technician. Many pupils
and staff owe her a great deal for always being
so professional in her job, unflappable, and
always successfully and unfailingly producing
complex apparatus for increasingly demanding
exams and investigations. As our chief
technician, she has been a fantastic mentor to
our other technicians, while also helping staff
who may possibly have left it a 'bit late' for
that practical that has to be done next lesson.
She will be fondly remembered for all her work
with the CCF. She is a qualified mountain
leader, and led many past and present pupils
on expeditions all over the world. She played a
crucial role each year in the Ten Tors Challenge
on Dartmoor, and was key to the success of the
Duke of Edinburgh awards.
Anne always brought to her work a wonderful
sense of humour, she was calm under pressure
and always wise in her judgement. We shall
all miss her.
Dr Lara Whiteman spent two terms with us
while Ms Hobday was on maternity leave. She
played a full and most important part in the life
of the school during that time, teaching,
coaching and tutoring with a quiet, calm
sensitivity. We wish her well as she moves on.
Ben Bohane taught in the business studies
department for this last year. He wholly
involved himself in a wide range of school
activities, and we thank him most warmly for
all that he contributed to our community. He
leaves to teach at a school near Bristol, and
goes with our thanks and best wishes.
Sam Anstice Brown spent 23 years at King's
teaching drums and keyboards. He started
teaching in a small room in the old music
school, looking out at the old outdoor
swimming pool which was soon to be filled in!
During his time at King's he taught many
pupils who were to go on to be extremely
successful professional musicians. He taught
Leo Crabtree, now drummer of The Prodigy,
and Matthew Prime, composer and producer
for major recording artists such as Will Young,
Natalie Imbruglia, Simon Webbe, The
Saturdays, Jamelia and Kelly Clarkson.
Dominic Wood of children's TV became Young
Magician of the Year, 18 months after Sam had
shown him a card trick during a drum lesson.
His parents were furious!
His own professional career has included gigs
with Nicky Campbell, Jimmy Tarbuck, Bruce
