T
he Under 14s had an
outstanding start to their
season, dominating Queen's
throughout the opening
fixture, with Will Potter setting
up several of the six goals
with raids down the right. Conor Bannister
scored a hat-trick, with Jack Holmes, Laurie
Moorhead and Will Potter sealing the match.
Against Millfield we never quite got our game
together and paid the consequences. A
disappointing afternoon all round really. But it
was a different story the following week against
Wellington, when we had a very exciting game,
both goals in our 2-1 win coming from Jack
Holmes. We were solid in defence, and had
plenty more chances to increase our lead.
Heartbreak ensued against Sherborne, when
we found ourselves 3-1 up with just seven
minutes to go. But the flood gates opened and
we conceded three times to lose in devastating
fashion. We then proceeded to give Canford
too much space early on, and we were behind
by half-time. Harry Sharp though scored a
good goal to bring us back into contention.
Against King's, Bruton, we played good, open,
direct hockey, with Will Potter scoring a hattrick.
Further goals came from man of the
match Jack Holmes and Conor Bannister. After
a strangely slow start against Taunton School,
we soon found our rhythm, and ran out
comfortable 5-2 winners in the end. Four
clinical goals by Jordan Clayton and a fifth from
Conor Bannister ensured the team finished the
season unbeaten in the Taunton area.
And in the county tournament we came
second, losing only to Millfield in the final on
sudden-death penalty flicks, having beaten
them earlier in the day!
T
he Bs started their season
with an evenly-balanced first
half at Queen's, but we
gradually edged ahead, Aaron
Dobie opening the scoring. In
the second half Max Germain
secured the match with two further goals. An
early goal by Charlie Granville got us off to a
great start against Millfield, but they gradually
got back into the game. Charlie scored again
though in the second half. The Cs scored first
through Charlie Rodgers, and Herbie Harford
gave us a 2-1 lead, but Millfield snatched an
equaliser in the last five minutes!
We lost a frustrating game against Wellington -
we never really woke up, and our defence was
less than tight. The Cs though played well in
the first half, with good movement. The goals
in our 2-1 win came from Martin Xiong and
Charlie Rodgers again.
We started well against Sherborne, with Will
Fung scoring a tap in from a good cross. In the
second half Sherborne were allowed into the
circle too often, and although Ben Pritchard
scored a penalty, it was not enough. The Cs
looked a bit leaky in defence, but held out until
just before half-time. After the break another
goal spurred King's on, but the damage had
been done.
We started well against King's, Bruton, with
Charlie Granville and Jamie Wild opening the
scoring. We continued to play constructive
hockey in the second half, with Ran Yamamoto,
Will Bishop and Jamie Wild all finding the back
of the net.
We then beat Taunton School 4-1, displaying
excellent fitness and a real positive mental
attitude. Goalscorers were Will Bishop (2),
Charlie Granville and Will Fung. The Cs had a
really close game that could have gone either
way. In the end we missed out by the odd goal
in seven!
