he Under 14s' season started
with a challenging fixture at
Millfield. Harry Parkin and
Leo Goodman-Jones looked
comfortable at the crease, as
we reached a total of 99, Ben
Pritchard and Hamish Manger putting on 35 in
the last four overs. Despite good bowling
however from Joe Merriweather, Millfield rarely
looked troubled in their run chase.
Batting first against Queen's, we scored 191 in
30 overs, with Jack Holmes scoring a quick-fire
54 not out. Early wickets and a brilliant
fielding display saw Queen's tottering on 40 for
9 after 15 overs, before William Potter capped
a fine bowling display by taking the final wicket
to secure victory by 140 runs.
We recovered from a shaky start at Blundell's
to eventually post a competitive total.
Blundell's started brightly but were pegged
back in the middle of their innings, before a
nailbiting finish saw them scrape home in the
final over.
Leo Goodman-Jones scored an intelligent 41
against Clifton, supported by Jack Holmes
(37), but we were unable to increase the run
rate in the latter stages, reaching a modest
132 for 9. Despite accurate bowling by Joe
Merriweather and Jack Holmes, Clifton
agonisingly reached their target on the last ball
of the match.
We managed to restrict Taunton School to just
117 for 8 in their 35 overs. An excellent
partnership then between skipper Jack Holmes
(53) and Patrick Cartwright (35) saw us ease
home with 12 overs to spare. And in the last
week of term we beat Monmouth by six
wickets. Chasing a modest 147 for 7 in 30
overs, we reached our target comfortably, with
Jack Holmes scoring 50 not out, and Will
Potter contributing an amazing 42 not out off
just 16 balls - a spectacular end to the
season!
O
nly Charlie Rodgers starred
with the bat for the Bs in
their opening fixture
against Millfield, as we
reached 84 all out. We
put Millfield under pressure
for the first ten overs, but could not stop them
eventually reaching their target. In a much
more convincing performance, we then bowled
out Queen's for 73, Max Molle and Will Bishop
taking three wickets each. Max again and
Connor McKenna starred with the bat as we
won by six wickets.
The following week we disappointingly lost by
four wickets at Blundell's, but the consolation
was an excellent 50 for Laurie Moorhead. In a
thrilling 25-over game at Taunton School, we
reached 126 for 8, thanks to a brilliant 43
from Charlie Rodgers. However we just failed
to clinch the win, Taunton School needing just
five off the last over to win with three balls to
spare.
In a disappointing end to the season at
Monmouth, we lost some cheap wickets early
on, and could only muster 80 - Monmouth
passed our total in 16 overs, losing four
wickets in the process.
