O
nce again the riders at
King's College can feel
very proud of another
successful season! The
Michaelmas term is always
the busiest, with events
nearly every Sunday. Our team of riders, Hatty
Harrison, Tarn McIntosh, Lydia Gray and Holly
Davis, gave superb performances at the many
events this year, such as Blundell's One Day
Event and Bruton School for Girls Hunter Trial,
where the team came fourth in a very
competitive class, with only seconds separating
the teams. Second place for the team at
Wellington School's annual show jumping
competition was another excellent performance.
Millfield School hosted dressage, jumping with
style and show jumping events throughout the
year. Our riders did well and came home with
rosettes from most of these events, but a
special mention must go to King's Hall School
team member Leea Dod who is coming to
King's College in September, and who qualified
for the National Schools Equestrian Association
Annual Show Jumping Championships.
This year we combined with King's Hall to
expand the team. India and Tom Knott joined
Leea at various events to represent our schools.
India ended her season riding for us with a
wonderful individual performance at Stonar
School's Mini One Day Event, leading her
section and beating 45 other riders.
We were fortunate too to take our riders,
including Georgie Thomson and Daisy Chelton,
to a cross-country training session with
international three-day event rider, Mary King.
The four times British Open Champion and four
times Olympian held the clinic at Stockland
Lovell course and was a huge success. Mary
gave us all expert advice and used her vast
amount of experience to improve our
techniques, working with us in a group but also
giving specific attention to each individual.
With a full calendar of show jumping, dressage
and eventing throughout the year, we compete
as competitively as any other school on the
circuit. The team continues to go from strength
to strength, and although we will be losing one
of our founding members, Holly Davis, there is
still a huge amount to look forward to as we
welcome new riders and build upon the
experiences and successes of our established
members.
What sets King's riders apart is their neverflagging
team spirit. If one rider doesn't have a
good day, they are still genuinely delighted for
and hugely supportive of their other teammates
if they do well. We look forward to starting a
new season in September!
