T
he Under 15s started their
season with a closely-fought
match at Blundell's that could
have gone either way, the
result all hinging on the last
game. Jessica Kennedy made
some strong returns with the support of Charlie
Webb, while Flora Evans and Melissa
McFarlane played well together.
At Clifton we enjoyed a fantastic win against
strong opposition. A great partnership between
Flora Evans and Melissa McFarlane produced
some competitive rallies against Clifton's first
pair in a really encouraging team performance.
We encountered difficult wet conditions against
Taunton School, but Flora Evans consistently
put away her volleys, and was well supported
from the baseline by Melissa McFarlane. There
was an excellent win for Florence Main and
Charlotte Smyth against their second pair.
Against a strong Wellington side, we recorded
an excellent win. Jessica Kennedy and Charlie
Webb did well to beat their opposite pair,
coming back from 2-5 down to win the match.
Canford had strength in depth in their Under
15s, but a number of close games went to
deuce. Flora Evans and Alienor Dartiguenave
played a lot of very competitive rallies, while
Florence Main and Charlotte Smyth battled
hard against their opposite pair.
We had a terrific win though against Millfield,
with great performances from all pairs, but
especially Flora Evans and Alienor
Dartiguenave. An unfortunate injury resulted in
the final match not being completed, but King's
had already won overall by then.
Against Sherborne, Jessica Kennedy and
Charlie Webb produced strong performances
against their second and third pairs, winning
6-3, 6-2. Though Sherborne were strong
opposition, the match was only decided on the
last round of matches.
Alice Geraghty and
Katie Blowers were
in outstanding form
against Queen's,
winning their three
sets 6-4, 6-2, 6-0.
In two fixtures
during the final
week of the season,
our junior girls
tennis players won
48 sets, and
conceded only 16!
L
ike the Under 15 As, the Bs too
narrowly lost their opening
fixture against Blundell's, but
there were positive contributions
from everyone. Charlotte
Mason and Katie Blowers won
two of their matches.
A few days later we went down again, this time
to strong Clifton opponents, though third pair
Charlotte Mason and Katie Blowers played
consistently well, and fought for an excellent
7-5 win against their first pair. But it was a
different story against Taunton School, when
there were strong performances for every pair,
Emma Miller dominating at the net and
producing a string of winners. All pairs worked
hard in the team's excellent 8-1 victory.
And although we lost against Wellington, a great
new partnership was forged between Alice
Geraghty and Katie
Blowers, who
dominated every
match to win 6-0,
6-4, 6-0. We won the return fixture at the end
of term, which shows how much progress we
made during the term!
We lost a closely-fought affair against Millfield
4-5, with the result coming down to the final
game. A strong performance by Charlotte
Smyth and Emma Miller saw them win
convincingly against the opposition's second and
third pair.
Against Sherborne, the Cs enjoyed their first
fixture of the season, with many games going to
deuce. Charlotte Mason and Emma Miller
played particularly well for the Bs. Which set
us up nicely for that return match against
Wellington to end the season!
