T
his season had numerous high
points from across the whole
squad. There were over 50
personal best times set by
both boys and girls. A
complete dominance over
Clifton was the greatest achievement of the
season, where both juniors and seniors won
every race, and only missed out on coming
second in a few races. Other wins over
Blundell's, Wellington and Sherborne should be
mentioned, as once again the squad proved its
depth and dedication with wins over tough
opposition. Special thanks go to all those
swimmers who filled in spaces caused by
injured squad members - the win over
Blundell's was only by a single point!
The junior girls' team benefited in particular
from some new 3rd form swimmers, gaining
wins in almost every event. There were
exceptional performances by Francesca Fender
in the 50m breaststroke and Emily Parris in the
100m individual medley and 50m backstroke.
Other performances by Rosie Parr, Tilly Barker
and Claudia Williams should not go unnoticed,
as each swam well all season. All the girls
trained and competed with commitment and
enthusiasm which only made the success of
the season even more rewarding.
The junior boys had a difficult start to the
season with limited numbers of regular squad
swimmers. James Walsh proved his dominance
in the 50m breaststroke with wins in all galas.
Special thanks to Angus Urquhart, the only 3rd
form boy in the squad, who showed eagerness
like no other. Even with a depleted squad all
the boys showed determination and willingness
to step in wherever needed.
The senior girls enjoyed a spectacular season,
winning the majority of their races. There were
strong performances from Charlotte Parris, who
gallantly volunteered to swim above her age
group. Both senior girls' relays were unbeaten,
proving the strength and depth of the team.
Rebecca Turner achieved an unbeaten record
over the 50m breaststroke in her final year at
King's. Next season we will benefit from Ginny
Nash and Lara Clark being in their second
season for the senior girls.
The senior boys performed powerfully this
season, with a large number of wins. Both the
boys' relays were almost unbeaten, with only a
few losses. Howard Hollis achieved nearly an
unbeaten season in the 100m individual
medley and 50m backstroke, while Alex
Raleigh and David Richmond were completely
unbeaten over the 50m breaststroke for the
fifth year running. Other boys who proved
themselves in the pool were Owen Griffiths and
Freddie Barker. All boys set new PBs this
season with frequent outstanding
performances.
Overall the swimming squad showed great
commitment both in and out of the pool
throughout the season. The girls came second
in the Meade King Cup, just narrowly missing
out on the title. All members of the squad
should be proud of themselves for the results
they achieved this season. Well done!
