attack drills, assaulting tors on Dartmoor, and
the 4th form went rock climbing and sea
canoeing in North Devon. The 4th form Army
cadets bivouacked for the first time on a 24hour
exercise on the Caerwent Training Area,
with an introduction to blank firing and section
attack drills the following day. The Naval
section had two days of excellent sailing
weather on Wimbleball.
All three of our Ten Tors teams successfully
completed their respective courses, with Tom
Smith, David Richmond, Harry Canning, Hattie
Cunningham, Luke Gavin and Joe Sharpe
conquering the gruelling 55-mile route. SSgt
Ron Mason was awarded a long service medal
for his 20 years spent training Ten Tors teams.
The Adventure Training Camp had small
numbers attending again this year, so it would
be good to see a much greater number signing
up for a very exciting and well-organised Lake
District camp this coming Easter. In contrast,
the summer Contingent Camp at Warcop was
well attended, with 25 cadets enjoying a full
array of activities ranging from live firing LSWs
to rock climbing. Chindit Camp was again well
attended, with over half of the 3rd form going
to Exmoor.
Finally, Lieutenant Anne Denning retired this
summer after 12 years' exemplary service in
the Army section as my number two. Anne will
be sorely missed, as she ran the Army
navigation programme, instructed the junior
Ten Tors team, assisted as a mountain leader
on Lake District Camp, and was always the
first to sign up for summer camp and mountain
expeditions to far-off places; she also assisted
with the Duke of Edinburgh training. Over the
years Anne has been a fantastic friend and
colleague to all of us working with the CCF, and
we wish her a long and happy retirement.
