T
he Under 14 As started the
season well, playing some
good attacking hockey against
Wellington, and twice hitting
the post in the first half. We
soon went 1-0 up, but
Wellington were quick to equalise, and then
scored a late winner, but it was a very
promising start to the season.
It was another good
team performance at
Taunton School,
though we quickly
went a goal down
somewhat against the
run of play. We
defended well and
began to move the ball
around, resulting in
second-half goals for
Tarn McIntosh, Hatty
Harrison and Alice
Stillwell, as we ran out
3-1 winners.
The build-up play against Sherborne was a
pleasure to watch, with accurate passing and
good ball pace. We took the lead in the
second half through Philippa O'Neill but
Sherborne quickly equalised. Tarn McIntosh reestablished
our lead only for Sherborne to
equalise again, and it was left to Tarn to score
our winner, against previously unbeaten
opposition.
It was another solid performance against Wells
Cathedral School, with passing and movement
again excellent. Alice Stillwell tapped in the
winner after a good passing move in the first
half, and there were good performances from
Emma Paull and Lucy Mead.
In a very competitive match against Blundell's,
we kept possession of the ball, but failed to
score. Build-up play was good and the defence
was well-organised - all we needed was a goal
to settle the nerves! And despite the
conditions, we managed to play an expansive
passing game against Bryanston, Tarn McIntosh
scoring midway through the first half after an
excellent passing move. Lucy Mead had a
great game in midfield, while Hatty Harrison
finally made it 2-0 with a fine shot, to finish
our season on a real high.
T
he Bs had a fantastically
exciting start to the season
against Wellington, with the
defence working particularly
well together. Rosie Dhillon
and Lily Magill linked well
with the midfield, Issie Clarkson made some
tremendous breaks, and our winning goals
came from Annie Haden-Taylor (2) and Jess
Spiers.
We started strongly at Taunton School, and
quickly took the lead with Issie Clarkson and
Jess Spiers setting up a beautifully positioned
Rosie Dymond. Three more goals from Milly
Bramble, Becky Vickery and Issie Clarkson
secured an extremely satisfying win.
We were on the back foot to start against
Sherborne, but gradually came into the game,
Rosie Dymond scoring twice before half-time.
In a scrappy second half Sherborne managed to
score, but we ran out eventual 2-1 winners.
The Cs had a terrific 4-0 win, all four goals
scored by Ellie McLean, well supported by
captain Annabel Wagstaff, Sophie Clarke and
Claudia Williams. Megan Kimber battled hard
in midfield and there was some solid defending
by Alice Lumley and Lily Magill. An excellent
result!
We weren't at our best against Wells' Under 13
As, but there were some moments of excellent
hockey, and Rosie Dymond managed to crack
the ball into the back of the goal from a short
corner to give us a well-deserved victory.
On the verge of an unbeaten season, we won a
fantastic game against Blundell's, with
excellent play from Rosie Dymond, Jess Spiers
and Emily Parris, and in defence Rosie Dhillon
and Minnie Taylor. And we went on to draw
our final game 1-1 against Bryanston, with an
outstanding performance from captain and
goalscorer Rosie Dymond. Player of the match
went to Emily Parris for her unwavering ball
skills and determination. The Under 14 Bs
finished the term UNBEATEN!
