T
he 2nd XI season started with
only two players remaining
from last year in the squad,
and this showed in the first
ten minutes against Richard
Huish, when we lacked
cohesion and conceded three quick goals. We
then found our feet with Kate Webster and
Megan Ameye working hard in defence, and we
managed to claw back two goals from Charlotte
Palmer and Martha Gray.
We started the game aganst Taunton School
brightly, but suffered two key injuries in the first
five minutes.
A hastily reorganised
defence took time
to gel and
conceded twice,
but tireless work
from Amelia
Evans, Kate
Webster and
player of the
match Holly
Davis kept the
opposition out for
the rest of the
game.
A
gainst Richard Huish the 3rds
couldn't make the most of
their opportunities, and had to
settle for a draw. Kitty
McIntosh led the charge up
front, but it was not to be our
day. We were disappointed to lose a frustrating
game against Wellington, with the new defensive
partnership of Jessie Danaher, Rebecca Turner
and Lucy Dunham working well. Kitty McIntosh
again showed great skill on the left to earn her
the player of the match award.
It was a good result though against a strong
Taunton School team, with Charlotte Palmer
dominating left midfield, and before long Holly
Matthews turned her defender to find the back of
the net. Taunton came back strongly though,
and despite fantastic defensive play from captain
Jessica Danaher and keeper Ruth Canham,
Taunton found an equaliser in the second half.
Rebecca Turner was player of the match against
Queen's for her excellence as sweeper, and great
work by Kitty McIntosh and Holly Matthews
resulted in a a convincing 3-0 scoreline. Katie
Butler was outstanding in goal. We were a bit
passive in the first half against Sherborne's skillful
players, who made us pay. We were much
livelier in the second half though - Mhairi Hall
was player of the match.
We then won an excellent game against Wells
Cathedral School, with impressive efforts up front
from Ruth Canham and Lara Clark, and from
Holly Matthews in midfield. Jessie Danaher
played consistently well in defence, and Katie
Butler made some more great saves in goal.
Sodden but not disheartened at Bryanston, we
deserved to score, but it was a good game of
hockey, and a really enjoyable way to end our
season.
We fought hard against a powerful Queen's
side, with Ginny Nash defending strongly.
Unfortunately we conceded a goal in each half,
but the performance set us up nicely for a welldeserved
win against Exeter School. Against
Sherborne we started well, but were
unfortunate to concede a goal against the run
of play. We controlled the game nicely with
Holly Davis and Kate Webster showing great
composure on the ball, but we couldn't quite
find the back of the net.
We fought hard against Wells to secure a 1-1
draw, Lucy Sharp particularly catching the eye,
and we were rewarded by a goal from player of
the match Charlotte Parris. Martha Gray
scored against Blundell's with a superb reverse
stick strike, a feat she repeated against
Bryanston, but despite resolute defending by
Charlotte Parris, we were unable to hold the
opposition.
In our first game on the brand-new pitches,
Lucy Sharp soon scored after an excellent onetwo
with Flora Webster. We were unlucky not
to increase our lead - Hattie Kean was skillful
and moved the ball well, and Jossie Zilkha
dominated the left, but a 1-0 win was still an
excellent way to end an enjoyable and
successful season.

The 4ths had three
matches, beating
Queen's 2-0 with goals
from Naomi Smale and
Anna-Sophie Oertzen,
but then unfortunately
lost to Sherborne despite
a good goal by Polly
Tullberg, while Annabel
Lumley was player of
the match in defeat
against Bryanston.
