Aluredian
photographs have graced countless pages of
both this magazine and the termly newsletter,
inspiring a whole band of pupil photographers
(and the present editor) who now try to fill his
shoes.
His greatest contribution to the King's
community perhaps has been his warm, Welsh
unpredictability. His Chapel addresses were
challengingly unusual, his Welsh cakes
exceedingly good. He had an ability to teach
pupils in sport, drama and chemistry to
approach their work from angles they had
never imagined, with impressive results, and
always in a manner which bred loyalty in them,
and great love for their teacher.
He showed an astonishing commitment to
King's over the decades, and brought to
everything he did a sense of fun, thoughtful
wisdom, and inspirational vision. He will be
greatly missed, and we wish him and his wife
Gaynor every possible happiness in retirement.

retired at the end of the
Summer term having taught at
King's for 36 years. The
portfolio of responsibilities that
he held during his career speaks
volumes of the energy, talents, vision and
stamina of the man. He was Head of
Chemistry for eight years, and Head of Drama
for five years, directing no fewer than 16
school plays in his time at King's.
For ten years he headed out into the
community with his primary school drama
groups, he was Second Master for 11 years,
and was Senior Master for seven years. He ran
activities for seven years, and throughout his
36 years at King's he was in charge of football,
running the 1st XI for 11 years. He ran tennis
for 22 years, and coached both the 3rd XV and
4th XV rugby teams.
In 1986 he was asked for the first time to take
official photographs of school events, and he
didn't stop for another 24 years. His
