Charlotte Dathan shows
strength on the ball against
Blundell's
T
he season started with a great
effort against Wellington, led
by captain Charlotte Dathan.
The teams were locked 0-0 at
half-time, but after the break
the opposition broke through
and scored twice in ten minutes, and although
we threw everything into attack, we couldn't
find the back of the net.
We found ourselves outgunned for most of the
game at Taunton School, but we battled
strongly against undoubtedly more powerful
opposition and worthy winners. But against
Queen's we enjoyed a hugely satisfying 2-1
win, in an excellent all-round team
performance, and then continued our run of
good form by beating Exeter School 2-0.
We had the honour of playing the first
competitive match on one of the two new astro
pitches, but couldn't quite grace the occasion
with a win. Charlie Webb had a great game up
front scoring one of our goals, while Elle
Bracher added the second.
We started well against Wells Cathedral School
with an early goal by Katy Preece, but some
defensive errors meant that we were playing
catch-up for the rest of the game.
The Blundell's
fixture showed a
committed and
much improved
team effort.
Despite being
three goals
down by halftime,
we fought
back strongly
and managed to
put the
opposition under
pressure with
strong runs
down the right
by Katy Preece.
A great effort
from the whole
team.
We took the lead against Bryanston, after Rosie
Parr had passed the ball into the circle, and a
collective effort from the forwards forced the ball
into the goal. Bryanston came back well and we
had to defend several short corners before they
eventually scored, and amongst the desperate
defending of the final quarter, Tilly Barker pulled
off some outstanding saves to ensure the draw,
and finish the season honours even!
T
he Bs lost only once, and
began with a terrific team
performance against
Wellington, always threatening
to score, with excellent
performances from Rebecca
Vickery, Gussie Hydleman and Jess Kennedy.
Molly O'Donnell was solid in defence, and it
was Laura Hamilton who scored the winning
goal from the right wing.
We won again at Taunton School, starting
strongly but failing to convert numerous
chances in the first half. Finally after the
interval, Jess Kennedy opened the scoring, and
despite a swift response from Taunton School,
Katy Preece swept in the winner in the final
quarter of the game.
We had another strong start against Sherborne,
with Katie Blowers and Flora Evans controlling
the midfield. We had several scoring
opportunities before finally finding the net after
a great team effort, the final score 1-0.
We maintained our unbeaten season with a
fighting display in poor conditions against
Blundell's. Jess Kennedy had several shots on
goal, and there was good defensive play from
both Charlotte Smyth and Katie Blowers, the
match ending goalless.
Against Bryanston we came back from 2-0
down to score a good goal, but as we pressed
for the equaliser, Bryanston managed a third.
But it was a spirited effort against a strong
side, and it proved our final match of the
season, as West Buckland cancelled their
fixture because of a flooded pitch.
