T
he Friends of King's was
founded by Canon Kenneth
Kirk, Provost, in 1933 and
exists to further the cause of
King's College in the broadest
sense, to widen knowledge of
the school and to maintain and strengthen ties
both internally and externally. Friends have
loyally supported the school over the years in
many ways, from cheering on the sports teams
in all weathers and attending concerts and
theatre productions, to providing feedback and
encouragement. Donations have been made
towards many facilities such as the theatre,
swimming pool and DT centre.
In recent years, many parents and grandparents
have expressed a wish to keep in touch with
King's once their children have left the school,
and so in 2007 the Friends of King's was relaunched
and now all parents automatically
become members once their youngest child has
left the school. Other relatives and supporters
of the school are most welcome to join too.
There is no charge for membership and many
activities are free to members, although some
are self-financing.
Each term Friends are sent a letter from the
Headmaster, together with the latest school
newsletter, and are invited to selected school
events and sports matches plus a special
annual Friends' reception during the Summer
term and a Friends' tea before the Carol Service
at Christmas.
We said farewell at the end of the Summer
term to Jane Hewitt who joined the
Development Office three years ago and who
worked tirelessly for the OA Club and the
Friends of King's. We thank her for all her hard
work and wish her every success for the future.
Leisa Lavender our new development officer
will continue to work with chairman Ray Codd
and vice-chairman Ben Sykes, and can be
contacted on 01823 328238.
