Taunton School fixture with wins in the relays
and the long jumps through Issy Germain and
Katy Preece, though Elle Bracher managed a
brace of seconds in the shot and javelin as did
Lucy Sharp in the 300m and javelin.
The season concluded with the Exeter evening
fixture at which Ben Vellacott had a particularly
successful time, having made an excellent allround
contribution all term, whilst Charlie
Maclean raced to yet another personal best in
the 3000m.
Sports Day saw a reprise of the steeplechases
with Woodard emerging as the overall boys'
winners, only five points clear of Bishop Fox
who in turn had won the relay cup and senior
boys' event, whilst Carpenter finished a mere
seven points ahead of Meynell, owing much to
the points gatherers of their 4th form. House
trophies went to six of the houses and the
individual victor ludorum trophies to five of the
houses, though the most emphatic wins went
to the better all-round athletes, Hilary
Moorhead, Charlie Maclean, Victoria Canning,
Matt Peek and Robin Danaher.
The success of the athletes and the staging of
the events can largely be attributed to the
coaching team of Mr Cole, Mrs Berry,
Mr Shaw, Mr Hall and Mrs Singleton, and to
the experienced officials Mr Lee and Mr Round,
as well as Taiki Yoshida who was a great help
as a scorer when available.

Swimming
by
Ian LundieT
his year saw probably the
highest ever standard of
swimming in all the Inter
School galas. During the
course of the term King's
won the majority of their
swimming fixtures, recording wins against
Wellington, Queen's, Clifton, Sherborne and
Plymouth, and only narrowly losing to
Taunton School and Blundell's.
Top junior swimmers for King's throughout
the season were Howard Hollis, Lucy
Chapman, Charlotte Parris, Fran Fender and
James Walsh, who were virtually unbeaten
in all their individual races. Stand-out
senior swimmers were Alex Raleigh, Owen
Griffiths and Heather McKenzie. The team
captains Tom Dunham and Lucy Barker led
by example, always giving 100%, and were
a credit to the school.
The season culminated in the Meade King
Cup, in which a total of eight records were
smashed and some extremely close
swimming races were seen. King's
swimmers did exceptionally well, recording
16 personal best swims on the night!
Hopefully next year's Meade King will be a
closer competition, as King's have an
exciting and talented group of swimmers
coming through, and all bodes well for the
future.
