T
he Senior Colts had an
excellent season, the highlight
of which was undoubtedly the
outstanding 10-5 win against
Millfield. In the opening
match against Cheltenham we
played some excellent hockey in a game which
we dominated, but lost to a breakaway goal.
We created lots of chances but failed to
capitalise on any of them. Man of the match
was Sam Merriweather.
With no fixture against Queen's because of the
county cup competition, it was on to that
historic day against Millfield, when we
produced an amazing scoreline, winning 10-5
against strong opposition. There were hattricks
for George Wayman and Dominic Bracher
on what was a memorable day for King's
hockey.
We drew a scrappy affair at home to Canford, a
game which we dominated, but we failed to
take crucial opportunities. Will Walters scored
twice in what was an excellent individual
display. Against Bruton we put in a strong
performance, scoring some excellent goals, but
once again we failed to close out the game.
A superb finish though ensured a well-deserved
3-3 draw.
Our season ended with an excellent
performance against Taunton School to win
5-1. George Wayman was outstanding and
Nick Mason on debut did well. There was a
hat-trick for Tom Sharp, with our other goals
coming from Nick Mason and Will Walters.
There was plenty of evidence during the term
that our senior hockey is going to be in safe
hands for the next couple of years!
T
he Bs were to enjoy a
fantastic and hugely welldeserved
unbeaten season.
With the opening match
against Cheltenham falling
foul of the weather, they set
out on their quest for glory with a comfortable
7-1 win against Queen's. It was a match we
dominated from the start, with Tom Drysdale
showing excellent leadership skills. Goals
came from Sam Vickery (2), Nick Mason (2),
Will Griffiths (2) and David McNeill.
We went on to secure a hard-fought victory
against Wellington's 3rd XI. We scored early
on with a well-worked short-corner from Nick
Mason, only for Wellington to equalise. We
dominated the second half but failed to score
until the dying seconds with a great finish by
Will Griffiths.
An awesome team performance resulted in a
4-0 win against Canford, with goals for David
McNeill (2), Nick Mason and Sam Vickery.
The highlight though was the skillful play and
sheer tenacity of the entire team. Dispite a
poor first half at Bruton, we rallied well to run
out comfortable 3-0 winners.
A 5-1 victory against Taunton School was a
fantastic way to seal our unbeaten season.
The whole squad contributed to a storming
performance, with one goal apiece for Olly
Harris, David McNeill, Will Griffiths, Henry Close
and James Pardy. We look forward to even
greater success in the senior sides next year!
