T
his was one of the most
successful netball seasons ever
at King's, the team being
crowned county champions in
the Michaelmas term, which
was then followed by an
unbeaten season.
Our first match of the Lent term was against
Wellington which we won convincingly 30-7. We
then went on to play Queen's, and after a rocky
start we soon secured a comfortable
28-1 win. In this match Tori Canning barely
missed a shot and Emma Clyde-Smith and Georgie
Thomas made the defensive work look effortless.
We then played Millfield and West Buckland in
a three-way tournament. Dominating Millfield
24-9 really boosted our confidence, and credit
here should go to Holly Domellof for her
phenomenal shooting skills. West Buckland
proved to be a little better than we first
anticipated. With a half-time score of 7-7, it
was an intense and
nail-biting game, but
we then adapted our
tactics to their
defensive game and
took the lead in the
second half to win
22-16.
Taunton School were
obviously looking for
revenge for our victory
in the county
tournament, but our
consistent teamwork
and perseverance
resulted in a
comfortable 26-15
win - a fantastic
result! Beating
Richard Huish
52-28 was an
incredible result with
everyone giving
100% and the
defence turning over
countless amounts of
balls, and Becca
Doyle consistently
breaking down passes
in the centre court.
In the South West regional tournament, beating
Truro, Canford, Clifton and Exeter College put
us second in our pool and through to the semifinals,
which was further than any of us had
expected. Coming up against seven 7ft-giants
in the KES Bath team in the semi-finals was a
bit daunting to say the least, but in the first
half we really held our own, and it wasn't until
the second half that they pulled away. Coming
fourth though was an amazing result which the
whole team will remember forever. Everyone in
this tournament played with passion, pride,
skill and tenacity and there was no one player
who stood out.
We started slowly against Clifton, but with
determination and fight we soon found our
form to win 33-17. Hattie Cunningham
intercepted a number of balls and moved the
ball around the court at speed. Our final
match of the season was against Blundell's.
This match was tenser than ever as it was the
game to determine our unbeaten season.
The whole team pulled together and worked
incredibly hard against very well-drilled
opposition. Credit here should go to Alice
Davies who never lost her head and provided
accurate strong passes into the shooting circle.
We soon secured the win and our unbeaten
season with a scoreline of 27-18.
In the Rossholme Cup, we beat Millfield B,
Queen's, Strode College and King's, Bruton in
our pool, and had to play a tough Yeovil
College side in the semi-final. We all held our
nerve and did not let the tension get to us,
winning the game 11-9. It was goal for goal
against Millfield in the final, with the score 4-4
at half-time. In the second half it was 8-8
with just ten seconds to go, only for Millfield to
score as the final whistle went. The result was
frustrating but we played a fantastic
tournament and were all very pleased with the
way we played.
This extremely successful season would not
have happened without our coaches Miss
Hobday and Aby. I would like to take this
opportunity to thank them both for their
persistence, passion, and drive to push us to
the best of our ability. This was an
unbelievable season. Not only was it hard
work but everyone had fun, and lots of great
memories will be taken away from it.
